I saw an astonishing video taken with this camera on Youtube at this link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1cNHnNvtms

Am very tempted to buy one. Thoughts/reviews from any Freepers have this camera would be appreciated.

That’s awesome. It beats what I can do with my expensive DSLR and 300mm lens.

Nikon is good stuff. Did just send my daughter’s Coolpix in for a warranty repair though. Lens was not moving.

You will need a very good tripod in order for that much zoom to be useful.

I’ve owned two previous models of Nikon Coolpix. Generally been happy w the cameras, but always disappointed in slow autofocus and number of out of focus shots.

I just checked CNet review of the P900 and they wrote “The autofocus system can be hit or miss and is slow to focus in low light.” Seems like they haven’t improved that. CNet also wrote that P900 is heavy w the big lens.

Last year I stepped up to an Olympus OM-D and love it. Very pricey though.

I have trouble taking good low light photos with my Nikon camera as well. I think my Fujifilm camera did a better job, but it only had 12x zoom.

Can’t speak directly to the P900 BUT I have used all kinds of cameras. My favorites are a pair of old Canon AE’s (film) with all the lenses. Great cameras decades ago but digital is way better for casual users, IMO.

A friend recently bought what I wanted, a Canon Rebel EOS. It’s a wonderful camera. However mrs p6 needed a new digital and one that wasn’t bulky. Got her a Nikon Coolpix S6800 compact. Fits in her purse or a pocket. I was skeptical of the pics until one day I was sitting in a chair by the double doors to our balcony.

Grabbed her camera and holding it just with my right hand pointed it at our hummingbird feeder.

Got several pretty decent pics through the glass and not adjusting anything. These pics are now zoomed much, the feeder is about 6 feet from where I was sitting.

Check a couple out at

Again not bad for a pont and shoot, through double glass and having had a few beers.

From now in the ONLY camera we will get is a Nikon. Hint, hint to mrs p6, LOL!

I love my Canon 7D Mk11. 70 x 300mm lens is awesome for pics but a little jittery for the video.

For a long time, I have been thinking about buying a “bridge” camera such as the Nikon Coolpix P900, but I am also taking a hard look at the Canon G3x. The lens on the Canon doesn’t zoom out nearly as much as the one on the Nikon, but the G3x beats the P900 in many other features.

I love my Canon Powershot G12, with which I have taken thousands of pictures. One thing I especially like about it is its rotating screen, which allows for furtive street photography. This feature has been discontinued on follow-on models.

I also have a Nikon D300 DSLR, but it’s too large and bulky for many occasions.

Awesome camera. My wife is a birder and you can get shots with this camera that a dslr camera can’t even see. (Without a lens that costs and weighs several times what this camera does)

Try the Lumix DMC F270. The lens is 20-1200. 60x optical...120x digital. It is relatively compact. No tripod needed. I took 15,000 pics on a lengthy trip last year. No problems. It cost about $275 @ CostCo. Take a look at reviews. Great camera.

Thanks! Next year on a tripod, remote control from smartphone. The camera can do that now, I was too lazy or drunk to set it up.

We have a 60 x Lumix. They both have their advantages. But the p900 8 a really great camera and you don’t have to have a tripod. It doesn’t hurt but isn’t required all the time.
