Obama: Fight ISIS and Islamic Extremism by Tackling Climate Change

US President Barack Obama has said that for nations to be accountable on greenhouse gas emissions, legally binding "periodic reviews" are needed. National commitments must be consistent with the carbon space nations occupy, he said.

The Hawaiian-born Obama referred to himself as "an island boy", saying he understands the beauty and fragility of island life.

Recognizing this possibility, a concerned President Barack Obama said part of the climate agreement soon to be hammered next week should be legally binding.

Earlier in the day, the president met with leaders of small island nations who fear their countries will be swallowed up by rising seas.

"And that your credibility and America's ability to influence events depends on taking seriously what other countries care about", Obama said.

President Barak Obama both acknowledged the U.S.'s large contribution to emissions, and also promised to play a major role in solving the problem.

His statement was a boost to climate negotiators seeking a tough accord.

Bin Laden blasts US for climate change

CAIRO - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming, according to a new audiotape released Friday.

In the tape, broadcast in part on Al-Jazeera television, bin Laden warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.
