However – and this is particularly troubling – all 13 of the people confirmed to have Pertussis had gotten the vaccine.

Who knows? Maybe it’s a resistant strain of the disease brought here by the illegals and/or “refugees.”

One of the consequences of the Kenyan’s “executive action” open borders policy.

Interesting that mandatory vaccinations where a hot topic for the last 3+ years.

That is indeed extremely troubling. One or two who’d had the shot but still got ill would be one thing, but ALL of them? That is not good. And I presume these are young, generally healthy people.

Diseases mutate, and it is quite possible we’ve had immigrants who carried a new strain evolved from the one the vaccinate works against into our population.

Generally only infants are vaccinated for pertussis. The vaccine only provides immunity for several years if there is no revaccination. So, people older than elementary age generally have no immunity to it unless they have been revaccinated, but revaccination of older children is not included in the standard vaccination schedule. People who actually get pertussis though are typically immune for 30+ years.

My internist follows the recommendation to have a tetanus revaccination (Td/Tdap - which includes the vaccine for whooping cough) every ten years. I hope that the whooping cough vaccine that is being given in the US hasn’t been “outraced” by mutating bacteria from overseas.

When a country does not secure its borders, the infected pour across. We’re headed toward becoming a third-world country.

The vaccinations also carry a risk of death.

Goody goody, third whirled plagues that we eliminated 70 years ago now starting to bloom again.

Fundemental transformation alright!

I’m pretty sure you’re right. I’ve had a number of friends and acquaintances killed in automobile accidents over the years but none who have died from vaccination complications.

Untrue. Kids get revaxed before they start school at age 4 or 5, and again in Junior high.

As for adults, any time you get a ‘tetanus shot’, it’s now a TDaP complete with pertussis as well.

Just like with antibiotic overuse, the bugs are mutating around vaccines as well.

http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/7/7/pdfs/01-7708.pdf

“In the Netherlands, as in many other western countries, pertussis vaccines have
been used extensively for more than 40 years. Therefore, it is conceivable that
vaccine-induced immunity has affected the evolution of Bordetella pertussis.

Consistent with this notion, pertussis has reemerged in the Netherlands, despite
high vaccination coverage. Further, a notable change in the population structure of B. pertussis was observed in the Netherlands subsequent to the introduction of vaccination in the 1950s. Finally, we observed antigenic divergence between clinical isolates and vaccine strains, in particular with respect to the surface-associated proteins pertactin and pertussis toxin. Adaptation may have allowed B. pertussis to remain endemic despite widespread vaccination and may have contributed to the reemergence of pertussis in the Netherlands.”

I had never received such a wrath as of those from anti vaccine Freepers. They are a vicious bunch. One prolific poster especially, who condemned me to hell, for supporting vaccines. (you know who you are...mmmmmK.)
