I just came from the National Review Online website, and it seems to be under an unprecedented attack from trolls, who are flooding threads with obscene, hostile, and extreme content. The trolling comments are so pervasive that they would overwhelm the efforts of moderators to control them. This seems organized, and it is extremely disturbing even if you think NRO represents "pantywaist" conservatism. FR could be the next target for this sort of attack. The comments are so bizarre and often self-contradictory that they have - dare I say? - a demonic tone.
Correct, however part of the theory is to block troublesome troll IPs or so I’m told by my friends in the business. ;)
Perhaps set up a flag for a surge in sign-ups, then ditch them.
NR isn’t the conservative site it used to be. No sympathy here.
I took a look to see and noticed anyone with a Disqus account can participate. No need to sign up to NRO to disrupt.
I don’t know. Maybe we’re already seeing that.
True
What was your first hint?
“This seems organized, and it is extremely disturbing even if you think NRO represents “pantywaist” conservatism”
“Pantywaist conservatism” gives that crowd of girlymen too much credit. They have their lips superglued to the GOPe’s butt.
I agree.
Tzfat, I agree with your post 27.
As your lips are glued to Trump’s butt.
“Paging Don Morgan
There’s a name I haven’t seen since back when I was a lurker. Didn’t he used to to the Kook Alerts? “
Don got me banned way back then. He was a piece of work, then he started an anti-FreeRepublic site.
lol, what a class act you are Stevie.
Then cut that crap out.
Don’t make it sound like Trump ever supported them. Call on EVERYONE to disavow them.

Look Jane, I did not try a bit to “make it sound like Trump ever supported them”. I was responding to post #23 above that mentioned a site possibly involved in the “Troll attack” on National Review Online (NRO). I had never heard of the site so went there to see if what the writer of post #23 said was true...and it appeared to be true (i.e., plans to attack NRO).
While there at the page the post #23 link took me to I saw something mentioning “our leader” (or words to that effect). So I clicked on that and this is what came up.

So, it was not a matter of Trump supporting them (of course he doesn’t) but these people supporting Trump. Trump likely doesn’t even know of their existence (just as I didn’t) so of course he didn’t support them.
OK< with those details it is clear this is some kind of troll attack and not just the usual comment stupidity.
Of course it is stupid itself, but I know it must be driving them crazy as NRO thinks of itself as a very classy site.
I still read them sometimes, but them getting rid of Derb and then Steyn kind of turned me off.
BREITBART: Online activists on the right, unite!
A digital war has broken out, and the conservative movement is losing. Read the comment sections of right-leaning blogs, news sites and social forums, and the evidence is there in ugly abundance. Internet hooligans are spewing their talking points to thwart the dissent of the newly-out-of-power.
They're basement flunkies being paid by the DNC and Soros-related "advocacy groups." They go active every election cycle then disappear until the next one.
FR has become Trump Central. Clearly this is no longer the place of freedom loving conservatives. The new DU: Donald Underground.
I read NRO almost every day, but I very rarely check the comments. I’m a great admirer of David French, and I’ve liked Jonah Goldberg since we were both college students.
So do I.
Anyone who doesn't praise Trump sufficiently is forever cast into outer darkness.
