Aunt Viv from “fresh prince of belair” has a good commentary on this:

Affirmative Action Oscars — yep, that was my first thought.
“Give them their own category.”
They already have several of them:
1. The BET Awards
2. The Image Awards
3. The NAACP Awards
Ad infinitum. Just a bunch of ignant, feral monkeys. If we ignore them, they will eventually STFU.
Me too, the last one I saw in a theater was “Saving Private Ryan”. What was that, 15 or 20 years ago?
Actually, I was thinking BOM. You know, like their movies. Or their bathroom habits.
Were there any major pictures with great roles for black acctors? If not, why shoouldn’t the nominations reflect that there weren’t any great performances because there weren’t roles of quality.
Seems to me that any time a black actor gets nominated they win. Anyone remember a really great acting job by a black that wasn’t properly rewarded with an Oscar.
Of course why not, more black whining will lead to more forced diversity will lead to more annoyed, disillusioned whites being turned off.
AA’s presence on TV and Hollywood is plentiful. Everywhere you look is black token characters in crowds where you normally wouldn’t see any, blacks being wedged into roles where they traditionally don’t belong. Every commercial has a black voice of reason talking sense to a dumb white guy. Just recently I saw a commercial for identity protection that showed a beautiful white women picking the pocket of a black guy. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
“Quotas, as opposed to merit.”

In other words, the Oscars will become meaningless.
They can just hand out trophies to everyone like some kids’ sports do. Participation awards-—that’s it.

Good explanation. I was thinking the companies were afraid of lawsuits from Jesse Jackson. Remember the fuss he made about the Toyota commercial some years ago and the big payoff he got.
In a recent "Beetle Bailey" strip, Sarge takes Otto to the vet...and the vet is black. Even "Beetle Bailey" has to be socially conscious and progressive.
ha...hilarious
for what it’s worth, I have never encountered a black veterinarian.
It’s also frequently mocked that many judges in movies/tv shows are always “sassy” black women,
Yesterday on TV some woman meant to say "I took my mother to the doctor and my dog to the vet" but it came out "I took my mother to the vet." She immediately corrected herself.
