7.1 earthquake in Alaska
An American in Turkiye

Posted on 01/24/2016 2:55:40 AM PST by An American in Turkiye

Just had a 7.1 earthquake hit 176 miles south of Anchorage. Yikes. Wife and I thought the house was going to collapse. Any Alaskan Freepers care to weigh in?

No, but I will lol if those man made Islands in the South China Seas get swamped over and over from Tsunamis.

I have a brother-in-law there although he recently bought a place in Arizona so he may be transiting.

Downgraded to a 6.8

Still nothing to sneeze at!

200 miles north of it and it shook the house for at least 30 seconds, the strongest one i have ever felt in 23 years here near Wasilla, no damage, no loss of power. House is built for stuff like this.

They first called it 6.4, then 7.1, honestly i thought 6.8 when it hit. I’m 11 miles north of Wasilla near Big Lake.

This one would have destroyed a lower 48 home, or damaged it.

I had just got home from the late session of Bingo in Wasilla, wasn’t in the door but two minutes when it hit, grabbed the big tv to make sure it didn’t fall over, going to bed now, but keeping flashlight near.
