The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Happy snow buried, football Sunday folks...

Tonight's lineup should be entertaining, straightforward and ending strong...some laughs with Our Miss Brooks...Nightbeat’s reporter stories...sci fi with X Minus One...and ending classically with a Lux, tying in Philip Marlowe...

How's it where you are?

Nice lineup! I know it's NFL playoffs day, so the thread may be a bit bare. We might check in and out while listening to the late game on the radio, but we'll still be around.

You haven’t lost power? That’s a blessing! I know the snow is beautiful but a hassle.

That’s a different show. It looks great. There’s a similar show on wamu called hot jazz Saturday nights. It’s a music show. This is an old time radio show.

I’m sure you’re well-stocked with all the advance warning y’all had, and snug as a bug in a rug (whatever that means). :-)

We’re fine. Just listening to Denver and New England and doing the usual Sunday stuff. The weekend has flown by. Wish we had an extra day off.

Brady’s struggling. Anything cooking?

I’m waiting to hear if the federal gov is closed tomorrow. My office follows their schedule. My road has not been plowed.

You could be stuck! A snow day would be nice for a Monday. What are you cooking, or are you?

I got us a couple of beef filets, so we’ll have steaks and potatoes on the grill. I also bought the stuff to make lasagna tomorrow or Tuesday. With the cost of all the ingredients and the time it takes to make it, Stouffer’s lasagna is a better deal. Although it’s hard to beat the taste of the homemade kind.

Did chili and roasted veggies yesterday.

That sounds good. How are you doing the potatoes?

Coincidence: Keith made a batch of his chili last week (no roasted vegetables, though). The chili was awesome, as usual. I made cornbread to go with it, and added cheddar and sour cream. Mmmmmm!

For steaks, we just wrap the potatoes in foil and put them on the grill—lazy way—and then add butter, sour cream and sharp cheddar cheese. I don’t even bother to make a salad. Lazy! Really, we don’t need the salad, or could have the potato OR the salad. Both is too much.
