‘Straight Outta Compton’ Star Corey Hawkins to Topline Fox’s ’24’ Spinoff
Variety ^ | January 25, 2016 | Elizabeth Wagmeister

Corey Hawkins will star in the pilot for “24: Legacy” — the “24” revival series in the works at Fox — Variety has learned.

The “Straight Outta Compton” alum has nabbed the leading role of Eric Carter in the pilot. As previously reported, the new “24” will not bring back Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer, so while Hawkins’ character is not a direct replacement, he will topline the potential series. (Sources tell Variety that while only a pilot has been ordered, “24: Legacy” is expected to land a 13-episode order.)

Described as strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole (yet to be cast), he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.

Maybe since only 13 episodes, and no jack bauer, they can just call it “13”.

Kiefer was getting a little old for a believable field agent who can take that much punishment.

That said, I'm skeptical anyone else can make the format work.

He was an Army Ranger? Well at least he has some cred to bring to the role. Still don’t think it’ll be “24” without Jack Bauer but we’ll see if it’s good on its own merit.

Oops, just realized the character is a former Ranger. Never mind. Still hope it's good.

“Yep, no Jack, no 24.”

Ditto. This is all the more irritating because of the way they ended the last “24” season, with Jack’s fate up in the air.

FYI, the actor, Corey Hawkins, was not an Army Ranger.

That's from the bio of Eric Carter, the character he's going to play in 24: Legacy.

“”I won’t be watching””

DITTO - no interest here. Who on earth thought that would make it better than the original?

Can whites boycott this show because they replaced
Kiefer Sutherland with a black man? Sign me up!

24 was silly. A fantasy designed to make us all swallow that whole “if the people only knew what we really did” BS.

24 wasn't just Jack Bauer. It was a serial story to hook viewers two essential elements. Outrageous soap opera plots twists for the ladies, and guns and a body count for the guys.

I knew 24 was coming to an end when I started being able to guess how Bauer would kill the next terrorist. He was strapped into a chair, after being handed over as a terrorist demand, and I turned to my wife and told her she might want to leave the room. She asked why, and I said "because Bauer is about to bite that guy's jugular." She scoffed at the idea, and about 10 seconds later I was proven correct.
