Judge: No More Cats for Florida Woman Whose 102 Cats Were Seized

A Florida judge has ruled that a woman who had 102 felines taken from her home can no longer own cats.

The ruling from Marion County Judge Thomas Thompson came Wednesday some six months after the county's animal control officers removed the cats from Diana Darnaby's home in nearby Summerfield.

60 cats had to be put down. As a cat person, that makes me sad. I only have one, because I'm not an insane person. Unlike this woman.



I lament this woman's loss of the freedom to own cats, but her own stupidity has led to the death of many animals and whatever unreported sums of taxpayer money have been spent cleaning up her mess. Wise ruling. I feel sorry for any people who had the misfortune of being her down-wind neighbors, especially after reading the Ocala.com link.

My sister has a stray cat she has taken in. She feeds the cat and gets it medical care. The cat rewards her by refusing to use the litter box or the great outdoors and instead using the entire house as a bathroom....

Now times this x 102 cats and that ladys house probably could be smelled a mile away.

I think there should be a law that keeps people from owning more then a half a dozen cats and/or dogs. And require anyone that owns any cat and/or dog to have a identification chip installed under the skin after they are old enough to do it. This would cut back on individuals getting puppies and kittens for their kids and then getting rid of them a few years later when the kids and parents get tired of them, move, or can't afford to take care of their pets.

Most of the time when individuals get rid of their pets in the above mentioned situation they don't take them to the pound or an authorize place to drop them off, they generally take them down the road and secretly drop them off in some one elses neighborhood in hopes that some one else will take them in.

Just the smell inside that house would probably cause some one to have mental problems, I think she needs to do some jail time with some fresh air to get that brain air out some.

There are already too many laws. I think an existing health law would cover people like that woman, and protect rural people that have several outside cats to control mice. They are typically given a warm barn and lots of food when mice are scarce. Our cat was a barn cat. Best pet we ever had, she’s so smart and affectionate.

City folks drop off pets all the time. We let stray cats live, as mother nature kills them off naturally in the winter. Dogs will form packs and need to be shot.

I love cats. I could not handle more than two in my apartment. It’s not built for more than two.

Maybe if I had a 100 acre farm I could have 100 cats.

A woman with that many cats also has that many diseases. I had one crazy cat woman here in this small town who had a cat die in her apartment and she slept with it for two more weeks. They had to evict her as the people living below her had to endure cat urine seeping through the ceiling. I am glad she was another veterinarian’s client.
