If you want a lap cat, get a ragdoll.

Your average American alleycat was bred for generations to be a mouser not to cuddle.

Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour. Then when you open the trunk, make note of which one is happy to see you.

I adopted a parking lot cat once, took me me four months to get that cat to trust me and when I got her home she turned into eight. She was more like a dog than a cat, greeted me at the door, played fetch until I was burned out and wanted to be on me every chance she got. I would have thought that she was a Ragdoll from her looks and demeanor but not one of the kittens shared her traits.

Dogs are bred to have insecurity issues often confused with love. They are cloying, emotionally dependent, they eat excrement, and they are very much like terrorists if not properly trained.

Cats PUR.

They bury their business [unlike dogs].

They are less irritating, less emotionally dependent.
