Why do they need to explain anything? It is supply and demand. And the demand is high due to the Federal loans. I had a conversation with my sister about college rates. She said something like “Well, we had to pay $8,000, and the government gave us $16,000 so it was doable.” I didn’t have the heart to tell her deluded liberal brain that the government didn’t GIVE her anything.
Either that, or the kids figure they will have a $100k job out of college (hey - I went to college!) and get the loans paid off in a couple of years.

My grandson was in a work-study program at a community college in Oklahoma three years ago. During the first semester he was required to work twenty hours per week for which he was paid $8/an hour. Second semester they cut his hours to five per week and his rate to $5/per hour. Said they had to do it so they could cover more people. Turns out the people they were paying out of the fund did no work but actually were brought in from Jamaica to play on the school baseball team and paid out of the work-study program.
