I spent 6 weeks in the Chicago area around 2001 and was amazed at how many Mexican restaurants i saw.
Here in the Boston suburbs if i want mexican i have two choices, Taco Bell or Chipotle.

There have been good Mexican restaurants there for years.

There is some good Mexican food in Boston. Casa Romera in Boston is very good. Hard to find but worth the search for a parking space. And there is Anna’s Taqueria that is good also.
