My pleasure!
The starting date of 536 ad is, I believe, the date of Cassiodorus report on the year with no sunshine. SC that is some list at #15, thanks. This period no doubt helped destroy the weakened Roman Empire. Bad growing conditions in the central Asian steppes would have played a part in driving the “barbarians” to the gates of Rome—the Vandals, Goths, Visigoths, Avars, Huns, etc.
Today the NYT had an article about the liberal panic back in the 1970-80s about the ‘nuclear winter’ which would be a new ice age brought on by multiple nuclear bombs that would be the result of a war.
The theory was that bombs and fires due to nuclear warfare would put so much dust in the air, that the sun wouldn’t be able to warm the planet. TV scientist and reality star Carl Sagan was a big proponent of this theory as I remember.
Of course, the Times story was all about their plan to scrap all the nuclear bombs worldwide since only one bomb would be enough to scare everyone into their senses.
But it got me thinking, if disastrous global climate change is as imminent as Gore says, and is due to humans using fossil fuels, then maybe we can reverse it with another proven human technology.
Lets set off nuclear devices all around the planet in barren spaces which would raise enough dust in the atmosphere to cool the ‘hockey stick’ data, but not enough to equal a large comet striking Earth or some giant Pinatubo -like eruption that would actually bring on an ice age. Sort of like using an umbrella to get some refreshing cool escape.
I know that 97% of scientists could put their pointy heads together for this wonderful project that would end climate change problems forever.
It’s nice to get scientific confirmation, but hasn’t it been known for a long time that this was a cold period in Earth’s climate?
It’s nice to have a new study using different data sources and data points — the alternative is, the LALIA never really happened, just as the Little Ice Age never really happened, and the Medieval Warming Period never really happened — positions of the Global Warming Hoaxters.
In the very early 1970s Popular Mechanics (and other mags) had cover stories about how the next ice age could start in weeks, not centuries, and that we were intercoursed. That didn’t work out either.
Oh, and nuclear winter — another brain-dead favorite of Carl Sagan, wannabee scientist.
Good point. Mikey Mann is still out there trying peddle his hockey stick hoax.
New ‘Little Ice Age’ coincides with fall of Eastern Roman Empire and growth of Arab Empire
