Growing up, my neighbor (former NFL) had a Miura. If I remember correctly, it had six Weber deuces for carburation. Took him forever on a Saturday morning to get them all balanced . . .but when he did the windows of my house — we lived in a nearly all-glass Eichler — would distort and throb with the harmonics.
I currently have 3 cars and my fastest car is a 2013 Audi S6 with the V8 twin turbo. C&D tested it at 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. It is fast and a sleeper car. But, I really like real sports cars more than sports sedans (my wife disagrees). I can buy any of my cars of interest for cash so I am not interested in cars that are sort of like i already had. But I have considered a Cayyman GT4 too and getting rid of another car,,,Toyota, Mercedes or Audi. I paid cash for the Mercedes and Audi so I know I can afford the decision.
NICE S6! Stick or auto?
I know you know this, but the newer Porsche’s and older ones cannot be compared.
PLEASE drive the Cayman. You don’t drive it - you wear it. You don’t learn to make it do what you want - it reads your mind and responds instantly never saying, “I can’t”. It’s another universe from a 911. Where you fight to keep a 911 Turbo or GT3 under control, the Cayman says, “No problem.” Many 911 lovers have converted. C&D wrote, “if everyone in the world had a Cayman, there would be world peace.”
A coupe guy myself.
I forgot I was also looking at the Mercedes AMG GTS.
The Audi S6, 2013 is a dual clutch shiftable automatic. It has two concentric clutch disks , one for odd and one for even gears. It can do electronic automatic shifting, shift lever shifting or steering wheel paddle shifting. It is a real manual clutch, just electronically activated instead of a clutch pedal. It also has launch control. There is no way you could manually shift as fast as launch control. It is similar to the Porsche PDK shifter. Audi is under VW Group ownership just like Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti. Many parts are the same. The Lamborghini Hurucan now has the same engine and gearbox as the Audi R8 V10-Plus.
This is a MUST WATCH for car nuts. A documentary on Ralph Lauren’s car collection:

My Cayman S has PDK with Sport Chrono, Launch Mode, etc. While I miss shifting gears as in my prior Cayman, I love its FAST......never heard about one clutch for odd and another for even gears........mine has dual clutch (wet), but like a multi-clutch motorcycle tranny........
Those doors are a pain.
I got to drive a Guiardo a few years back. There was a button to raise the nose when you went up curbs because it could scratch easily. Fun part was the top down. When the V10 kicked it it made a gorgeous racket.
If you have PDK it will match engine/gear speed on upshifts. That is how it is so fast.
LOL! You enjoy driving money pits!
Your PDK gearbox has two clutch discs too. The controls hab]ndle the odd/even shifts, both upshifts and downshifts are done automatically ant the dual clutch id=s done for max shift speed.
That is a beautiful car. My vote in the most beautiful category goes to...
BugattiVeyron
To be followed by the...
Bugatti Chiron
LOL I was in Malibu in... 2004 or so and looked at a Countach with 20,000 miles or so. Mint, serviced, etc. $35,000 which meant $30K cash easy.
Thought to myself: “such an iconic car, how could this NOT be a great investment?”
Passed on it.
Then again, where do you stow a Countach for 10 years?
Mmm. Glass Eichler houses. So many Freepers have led interesting lives and are appreciative of their rich experiences.
Pretty!
btw, you are always able to pop up all kinds of links, I’m wondering if you happen to know the website that lists/catalogs every car ever made.
I saw it here once, long ago, and didn’t bookmark it.
I wanted to print a picture of every type auto my 92 dad ever owned, just because he loved all his cars.
Thanks!
Sorry, I'm not aware of any site like that. But I'm sure there must be a bunch of them out there that can do that. When I have additional time and opportunity I'll see if I can find one.
Thank you for the reply and I appreciate your offer but you need not take the time to search. Unless you stumble upon one, I’ll just keep looking too!
You made the right call. The Ford would run. The Jag had Lucas electrics; headlights with two settings, off and flicker.
How high up are you?
