I never said it was. We have forgiveness as a gift. It is our job to not squander it. The Holy Spirit, our Great Counselor, tells us when we sin and we must repent for that, but not to earn or re-earn salvation. We will never be worthy of the gift we have been given, but we still need to act as if we are a worthy child of the King.
Repenting is not the same as asking for forgiveness. The reporter asked Trump the wrong question. Baptists and Arminians and all the other ChurchAmericanity denominations often confuse the two because they only search for proof that they are right. A smart and honest Christian searches scripture to prove that he is wrong.
