Easiest way is to get a laptop with an HDMI out and just plug it in.

There are many ways to do such things and some of them (like mine) can be extremely elaborate. But if you’re just wanting the simplest way forward, get a long hdmi wire (monoprice.com) and plug the sucker in and enjoy.

Do both the TV and the computer have HDMI ports? If they do, connect one to the other via HDMI and set the smart TV source to whichever HDMI port you used on the Smart TV ... that should do it

Stay away from any apps they claim to help you. Either you have a wired VGA, HDMI etc output or you don’t. If this makes no sense take peripherals 101.

Assuming you have wi-fi, Google chromecast. It costs $35 and streams to your TV whatever you’re playing in your chrome browser.

Of course, if you’re anti-google, do what everyone else is saying and buy a long HDMI cable.

I used to do that but my dogs intentionally got snagged in the cable at every opportunity until they ruined the HDMI port on my laptop so now the port has such a bad connection, it’s almost unusable.

I use Plex, but I have a dumb TV. With a smart TV, just set up a network at home and use the laptop as a server. I have about 3 computers online at any one time( 5 all together). I also have some USB drives filled with pics, music, and movies. I can access any of them thru PLEX. If your laptop has HDMI, I would just plug it into a TV port and go,....much simpler.

Spend $35 and get a chrome cast. Then you can broadcast from most any program.

In my house we have Apple TV on a couple of our sets and I can “AirPlay” from my iPad. But the solution is more expensive.

I should have added, the Chromecast is a small wireless device with an HDMI connector that plugs into one of the HDMI ports on your TV. It comes with both a USB cable that plugs into a USB port on your TV, or an adapter for 110 V outlet.

It really is a great device and very easy to set up.

I stream video MP3 files from a PC to a smart TV all the time.
Download the PLEX Media Server (for free).
Install the PLEX client on your smart TV or Roku device (or Apple TV, or Amazon Fire TV, or use a playstation) and start streaming.
The Plex Media Server will configure your video and even bring up Netflix style menus for the video files you have.

I have a Rocketfish cord (that's the name on it.) that is pluged into my computer and the other end of the cord into one of the HDMI inputs. Then you use your Menu to make sure when you want to see the laptop on the TV Be sure to set it on the Correct HDMI that it is plugged into.

I think you can also do it with one of those little plugs (don't know what they are called) One into your computer and the other into the HDMI input. Check with Best Buy. They can tell you more about it.

On my dumb tv on the patio I just use a laptop with an extra RGB out and wirelessly stream video using Brighthouse Networks app via wifi. No holes in wall. Latency is a slight problem. But it is fine...we can watch games and conventions from the pool.
