If you are traveling the 95 corridor then only travel from 9pm-6am to avoid a lot of traffic if you can. I have been doing this for 25 years now and it is the only way I will do the drive from way up north down to SC. It’s hard as you get older but man is it worth it to cut travel time and avoid traffic.
BTW- stop and see the Washington sites if you have time. It is worth it!
Have a fun and safe trip!
Avoid casino buses.
Hi Chickensoup!
That sounds like a wonderful trip!
Please do not avoid ANY of our beautiful states! There is beauty everywhere ... the ocean views from Maine to NH to MA and RI are spectacular. My hometown of Boston is a wonderful and lovely walking city. Great seafood!
I wish you a safe and fun trip and may the weather be in your favor! I love the USA! All states have beauty. How about Annapolis in Maryland! You must be so excited :) Happy for you!
If your travel plans take you through North Carolina, the major points of interest are on the eastern and western ends of the state. If you’re coming down from the north and have time, take the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Asheville, then veer off, maybe stay the night there. Liberal place, Asheville, but beautiful, lots of interesting things to see and do. Then, take I-26 south out of town and hit US 64 West, beautiful drive, even stunning once you get past Brevard. So many waterfalls, just an astounding number. Take US 64 through Highlands and catch the highway south to Atlanta and continue on your journey.
Or, the coast of NC is great, if you like wind, water and sand dunes with scattered beach towns along the way, you might enjoy driving south on NC 12 which covers the length of the Outer Banks. Get on it from US 64 (long road, lol) into Manteo then Kitty Hawk, it goes to the far southern tip of Hatteras Island where you can catch a free state ferry to Cedar Point and drive on to Wilmington, or you can catch a free state ferry to Ocracoke, cool, artsy, slightly wacky island town, park the car and walk around, maybe stay a night. Then catch the free state ferry to Cedar Point and continue south. Nice beaches all along the route, mostly uncrowded except for the Kitty Hawk and Nags Head areas.
The middle of the state is where the cities are. Nice enough, but not really tourist draws.
“OMG. Cant believe you mentioned that place. Love it. So many Baltimore haters here, doubt shell make it . :-)”
I travel for a living, so I always seek out places like that...it has been a personal favorite of mine for 25 years, and I never fail to go there (multiple times) when I am in that area.
Thank you, I am excited!
Go to Old New Castle, DE. William Penn landed there in the late 1600’s.
Go to Longwood Meadows, Winterthur or any other Dupont Mansion.
Do see Independence Hall, The Treasury and everything around there. Then get over to South Street for the Philly Cheese Steak.
Go to the museums on Franklin Parkway.
Stand up for the Liberty Bell and then see one of the most beatiful Masonic Temples, across from city hall.
Go to Lewes, DE and have crab cakes anywhere. Sumptuous and mostly crab meat. Wash em down with a beer.
Anything in Lancaster, PA.
Anything and everywhere in DC. I love it.
If you can make it to Williamsburg, do so 1st thing in the morning and finish your day with and authentic meal circa 1700.
Too many things to list...
I have an old friend in Asherville, might just do that if she is around.
I thought you promised to never post to me again
Tanks, artillery and small arms museum are all gone from APG. Most of the collection has been moved to Fort Lee near Petersburg VA. Nothing for non DOD folks to see at Aberdeen Proving Ground anymore and due to the nature of the work going on there, even getting on post is tough unless you have a specific reason to be there.
She must find you irresistible too. Let’s have fun here.
Charleston is beautiful, friendly, and peaceful. Get you some fish and eggs for breakfast at Paige’s Okra Grill.
yummy...
do I have to eat okra?
even chickens have their limits.
The places are great. The people are the pits.
I live nearby. One of my favorite lunch stops. Shrimp, scallops, couple beers...might have to go tomorrow.
If you’re a beer fan, there are tons of microbreweries in and around Asheville. The Biltmore House is also there and very popular, worth a visit once, even with fairly expensive admission cost. Wide array of nice accommodations, from basic to fairly extravagant (The Grove Park Inn, The Grand Bohemian).
I forgot it was you but should have realized it was you once I read your cynical post to someone excited to see our beautiful eastern seaboard. Such a downer :( Cheer up, Life is Good. Only go around one time, may as well enjoy it.
PS. This isn’t a post to you.
LOL..go Sox
That’s Newark, Delaware...
LOL
