And, I've always thought Lars was just mediocre. Not talking about talent, just style of playing. I've always liked the style from guys like Tommy Lee. The Motley Crue tracks are a LOT more fun to play... the kick/tom combos he uses a lot are awesome and make a ton of noise... to my wife's displeasure. I'm using a Roland TD-20 nowadays so I'm confined to headphones most of the time... not nearly as fulfilling as using twin monitors at full volume. I may be old, but I still like to make a serious racket when the house is empty
Same here.
Polk Audio towers and 200W of heavy, old Kenwood. Probably 60lbs.
Recently put on Black Sabbath 13...loud.
Saw my neighbor the next day...he was chagrined. He came over to listen with me and drink a beer, but all the knocking and doorbell in the world could not be heard.
All that said, I've seen Tommy Lee with Motley Crew and thought his drumming mediocre at best. Same with the entire band.
But when Lars is busy, he's really busy...syncopating the bases against each other while doing everything else right.
You actually have to watch him on video...live is too distant...some albums attrit beats they don't like, or diminish the range and volume.
