I have to wonder on your hypothesis: Do they vote Dem *because* they are packed in so tightly, or do they live like that because liberals are drawn to that kind of environment? I believe it’s the latter.
Great point, cities require more democrat style rules and centralized control because of the dense population and shared use of public spaces, transportation etc. They literally breed more democrats.
We are always frustrated by the lack of ability to understand our genius.

Another study a few years ago reported that most American’s have one to two close friends. I haven’t seen other similar studies.
I always thought it was because I’m an a**hole. Now I realize it’s because I’m really smart.
Notice that under Obama, ALL categories are trending down.
A fellow I used to car pool with liked to talk about moving to Wyoming to “improve the idiot to me ratio”.
Also i think if you live out in the sticks you have to be more self-reliant (and content being that way).
“Why smart people are better off with fewer friends”
WHAT a STUPID Statement.
I live in the middle of the Big Nothing. Town I live in is 600 people. My family has lived in this county since 1889. I have more friends here than any of my daughter’s neighbors, she lives in Northern VA.
The WaPo is a good example of ComDem Insanity.
In 1970 the US population was a little over 200 million. It is now well over 300 million. So there are more people per square mile in the country. That may explain the general downward trend in the lines since 1970. Too crowded.
I don’t think I would stake my professional career on that study.
I seem to remember a classic study in psychology from, oh, maybe 50 years ago: rats were placed in cages with increasingly dense populations. The more the rats were confined in a small space, the greater the attacks, violence, killings, sexual deviancy. Those with more “free range” space led fairly normal, happy lives.
A quote from Dave Gardner also comes to mind, “Ain’t nothin’ wrong with the country, ‘ceptin’ the city!”
