In spite of all the teeth gnashing by Trumpsters, there is no argument on the Convention rules. It is simply “either or”. Either those long established rules requiring a majority of delegates shall be honored or your side somehow thinks Trump will get away with flaunting the Convention rules.

Whether or not Trump attains the nomination, he nor his followers (a minority of Republicans, by the way) have the power to destroy the GOP. If the GOP were to give in to Trump’s threats and “give” him the nomination even though he did not reach 1237, then that capitulation to intimidation is what will destroy the GOP.

One thing to keep in mind is that this IS politics. Trump has learned the ropes very quickly as a populist candidate.

I'm not sure what your 60% figure is, but if your referring to the Delegate count from the Primary elections, Trump will have the nomination no question with 60% of the delegates going in.

However, to think Trump might have 60% of the delegate count at the end of this is deluded thinking.

My personal view is that if Trump gets the R nomination, the press and the Democrat machine will destroy him and either Clinton, Sanders or whoever the D's eventually nominate will be our new President.

I also feel that if Trump is not nominated he will run as an Independent and do everything in his power to ensure the Republicans do not win the Presidency.

In other words, I don't hold out much hope at all for Republicans this election cycle.

I'm not sure what your 60% figure is

You had said: The convention represents the will of the Republican Party and 40% of the delegates do not represent the will of the Republican Party.

So it was the difference between 100% and the 40% you mentioned.

My personal view is that if Trump gets the R nomination, the press and the Democrat machine will destroy him and either Clinton, Sanders or whoever the D's eventually nominate will be our new President.

You apparently have not been paying attention. Everyone has been trying to take down Trump for months and have hit him with everything. He fights back and wins every time. Tens of thousands have switched party affiliation to vote for Trump. In addition, I believe they are also finally realizing that the Democrat Party no longer is the party who are the advocate of the "downtrodden" who lack a real voice. In addition he is winning more Republicans than Cruz. Cruz appeals to the conservatives, period. He doesn't gain much, if any, support beyond that narrow group of constituents.

So if what I said is true, how do you possibly believe that Cruz would do better than Trump against the Democrat candidate in the general election? Believe me when I say the press will come out very negatively against Ted Cruz if he was the nominee. They will play his dad saying he is the anointed one, along with the preacher advocating the executions of gays for starters. Who knows what else they will turn around to make him look extremely radical to the liberal eyes. In fact he may just well be the catalyst to energize those who vote for the Democrat but like neither of the choices they are saddled with, but would hold their collective noses to vote against Ted Cruz. Much like Republicans have been forced to do in many of the past Presidential election cycles.

Then on top of it many Republicans do not like what they are seeing is, in their eyes, the true Ted Cruz.

They see him as a supporter of the globalist philosophy whose real main motive is his personal rise and gain, and not the American people or even America. That is a real sentiment being expressed even here on FR and there is plenty of convincing evidence to support that sentiment.

There have been many Cruz supporters switch to Trump, including myself. There have been a handful of Trump supporters that have gone over to Cruz, and my guess is that they were never really supporters. Instead they were intrigued by Trump but also liked Ted and then finally just fell on Ted's side.

Trump is the best hope for this election cycle, not because Trump will be a great President, but because it will shake up the GOP establishment. If he turns out to be a great President then that will be serendipitous. He will indeed be a President that cares about this country, of that I have no doubt whatsoever. He has demonstrated his love of this country for decades now.
