How PA And CO Could Steal Nomination From Trump
Dick Morris ^ | 3/28/2016 | Dick Morris

Posted on 03/30/2016 8:41:23 AM PDT by Signalman

The bosses of the Pennsylvania and Colorado Republican Parties haven’t heard of the 1972 rules changes in the nominating process. Outrageously, they are harkening back to the days of boss domination, ignoring the will of their voters.

Pennsylvania will hold its primary on April 26th but it won’t mean anything. The Party honchos have adopted rules that do not bind the delegates to the will of the voters. These 71 delegates will arrive in Cleveland for the Republican Convention free to support anyone they want.

Colorado won’t even ask the voters. The Republican Party there has actually cancelled plans to hold a primary. The state’s 37 delegates can vote for whoever they want on any ballot.

Together, this gross miscarriage of justice means that there will be 108 delegates floating free in Cleveland. While the Republican Party — unlike the Democrats — binds its super delegates to reflect the will of the voters as expressed in the primary, the Pennsylvania and Colorado delegates will serve the same purpose as super delegates — to thwart the will of the people.

The latest poll in Pennsylvania, by Franklin & Marshall on March 20, had Trump holding a narrow lead with 33% of the vote, followed closely by Kasich with 30% and Cruz with 20%.

But it won’t matter. If the race narrows into a tight three-way contest (likely since Cruz has money to spend. Kasich doesn’t. And Trump won’t), the delegates will feel completely free to vote for whoever they want or whoever they are told to want.

Since the GOP establishment is working overtime to coalesce to stop Trump, it is easy to see that Pennsylvania and Colorado could split between Cruz and Kasich denying Trump any extra delegates.

This anachronistic technique for allocating delegates could be the way the establishment steals the nomination from Donald Trump. And then there will be hell to pay.

So was the method okay 4 years ago? 8 years ago? 12 year ago?
Certainly is nothing new. Just one of those things when you can use it to your advantage its great when it can be used against you it sucks.....

The fix is growing. America is so damn corrupt that they cannot even set up a nomination process. The criminals are controlling both of these States.

Maybe that’s why Kasich is so confident about Pennsylvania.

What reaction is there by voters in Colorado to not holding a primary?

No, YUGE difference. Four years or eight years ago, the leading vote getter won the delegates.

Now what you have is a slimy, blatant attempt by the GOPe (which, I guess includes you, because you seem to approve) to steal delegates from the overwhelming number of people who vote. This is nothing different than what Clinton is doing to Bernie in the Dem party.

We don’t yet know what PA or CO will do, but we have seen it in LA and it stinks. This is why the public is so disgusted with both parties.

Mark my words: if Trump goes to the convention having “won” 1237, only to have delegates stolen so they can slime in Yeb or Ryan (and don’t kid yourself, it will never, ever, EVER be Cruz), then you will see both a revolt and the end of the Republican party. And for anyone to defend this garbage is beyond me.

“The Party honchos have adopted rules that do not bind the delegates to the will of the voters. These 71 delegates will arrive in Cleveland for the Republican Convention free to support anyone they want. “

The GOPe machinery is working overtime to try to deny Trump the nomination.

The optics are going to be horrible for the GOPe...as Trump will win the Rust Belt and Fracking areas w/Cruz and Kasich having to take the east to keep Trump from getting all 71.

But the Dems are going to have their own problems here too. Dear Leader and Biden have BOTH endorsed McGinty...not...Fetterman (who was/some backing could become a media darling). Fetterman has endorsed Bernie...and like the GOPe, the Dems are manipulating delegates away from groundswell, outsiders like Trump and Sanders

The UniParty has seriously misjudged this cycle.

Nope, voters pick the candidate just like 4 and 8 years ago.

Trump has 3 times as many “base of the party voters” than any other candidate, and will have the most votes by the end by a long shot, and although the GoPe is certainly free to use whatever rules, “even the ones there making up on the fly”, to keep Trump out, because after all it’s their party,(not ours), they are not free from the consequences of their actions.

The question is do they really want a base, or another way of saying, do they want a viable party. A party that is beginning to look like it could care less about having a sitting President and a party that should be quite concerned about holding on to House and Senate seats, those elected by that same group of voters voting for Trump.

Winner gets 17 delegates. The 54 others are assigned by the party.

Trump will get the 17 because he will win.

The 54, who knows? Probably split between the three.

Dick Morris believes that the nomination for the Republican party is the rightful property of Donald Trump? Maybe that’s just because Trump already bought it.

This is not an anti-Trump move. This bizarre system has been in place in Pennsylvania for decades. For example, in 1980, Bush won the Pa. Primary. The delegates voted for Reagan.

The issue is this. There is one vote, for 17 delegates, where you vote for your Presidential candidate.

There is another where you vote for delegates by district. The candidates for delegate are just listed by name, with no sign of who they will support. A smart campaign, as several I have seen in the past, will make sure that the voters know which delegates belong with them so that they can get their delegates elected. Otherwise, people vote for the delegates whose names they may know without knowing who that person will support at the convention.

They are not assigned by the party. They are elected by district, but no one knows, at least by ballot listing, who they will support at the convention.

Hey, GOPe. Go ahead. Go ahead and dismiss the vote of millions. Prove what a total sham you are. Do it MFs!
