Waze will warn when your lead foot has you speeding

The crowdsourced driving app, owned by Google, already offers up the best routes to your destination by gathering data from fellow users on accidents, traffic jams, road closures and other hazards. Now, at least in some countries, it will also let you know when you're pushing the speed limit.

If you're driving too fast, a visual warning will pop up on the app's screen showing your speed. The warning stays there until you slow down to below the speed limit. You can customize the app to warn you if you reach the speed limit or if you shoot past it by 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent. You can also turn off the alerts completely.

The GPS tracking must be calculating the speed of the car so you know that is going to be extremely reliable.

Who needs an app? Is my car moving? Then I am speeding.

Of course, using a cell phone while driving in many places will get you a nice fine. $295 where I live. Farging Google geniuses...........

Do you remember when speedometers would only read to 80 of so, with the supposed idea (I guess) that it made drivers think cars would go no faster.

The POS smog-mobiles back then often could not.

For now.

It also talks to you so you don’t have to watch it. It can replace your GPS too. When we go on trips, I’m riding shotgun so I keep an eye on it. It’s been very useful. Can also be used as a modern day cb radio. If you get in a traffic jam and see a wazer up ahead, you can send a message and find out what’s going on.

I use it regularly, esp when driving distances. Traffic alerts with explanations of what’s going on, speed traps and speed camera alerts... I have used it driving all over Europe as well, it’s an excellent tool.

Ha, yeah I have been driving 34 years and have found the app very useful when traveling at or near lightspeed. Replaced the old CB radio Bear Reports.

IIRC in many states it is permissible to use the GPS navigation on your phone legally while driving.

Stupid and redundant. Why would anyone need an app like that when they already have the instruments cluster right there on the panel in front of their faces?

It would be useful on the newer models where the buyer did not take the speedometer option. There are apparently quite a few vehicles now with optional turn signals too.

Silly, you can't look at the instruments and your cellphone at the same time.

Mebbe, my state it is no handheld electronic device, which would include any GPS unit, phone or real GPS. I shout at the Bluetooth connection on my Nuvi.

Shhhhh

There are many people on this thread who love to take positions on things which they don't have any knowledge of. You might offend them.

Waze is among the best of the phone based GPS apps. In addition to the normal GPS functions, things like speed trap, accident, and road hazard alerts take it to another level.
