I’ve bought tons of things off eBay for many years and almost never knew the gender of the seller, pre-purchase/pre-bid.
Yep. As they say - A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn’t need but is on sale.
I call BS.
I have never knowingly looked to see what gender the seller is. I can’t imagine anyone else does either.

It is probably just proof that men sell more expensive stuff with higher margins. Auto parts cost more than quilt blocks. Who knew?
Stupid tripe intended to ‘confirm’ anti-woman bias. Even casual ebay buyers will say, “no idea who the seller is”.
That being said, I typically ask seller: “Are you female? If so I’m only sending 80% of the purchase amount. Also I expect it to be hand delivered, while you’re wearing a skimpy outfit, toots. Friendly reminder to do laundry, and have dinner ready for your husband when he arrives home. Check on the beer supply and make certain its fully stocked! He may have had a rough day and doesn’t want to hear you blah blah blah.”

This makes no sense. Unless you know what their cost was for an item, in comparison to their selling price, you can’t determine profit margin. So how do they know?
Also, how do they know the gender of the sellers?
Do men & women sell enough of the same items, with known purchase costs, to determine this? I think not. The fact that they arrived at “80%” makes it obvious this is just a “study” to come to a predetermined conclusion...”women make 80c on the dollar compared to men”. Total BS.
That’s certainly true but I can tell when there’s a store such as “Deliah’s Delights” or such, and when they list technical items with stupid descriptions such as “this is some kind of electric thingie, the whatchacallit it bent and I’m afraid to plug it in”. No...well “few” men would say stuff like that. The poorer the description and less knowledgable the seller, the lower the price they will get in most cases.
There are certainly some very savvy female sellers who don’t fit the above stereotype and some male sellers are no doubt worse, but the prevalence of women running antique stores and such makes it fairly obvious in many cases.
Makes sense to me. Men are by nature more aggressive than women on average. Therefore, men are more likely to ask for a higher price than women. As for used stuff, men are less sentimental than women. Therefore, women are more likely to ask a higher price on stuff they used in order to part with it.
Who the heck are they blaming for this discrepancy?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t sex concealed in most on-line auctions?

But only to me and we. Ebay is gonna have to pay for their sins. They been keeping the women down for too long and I think the gubmint is going to go after them for a big bribe to set things right.
