Huh. You’d think women-selling would be very profitable.

re>Men are by nature more aggressive than women on average.

Really? In most species the female is the most aggressive. Ask a Male praying mantis. Females in most species need to be to protect their offs;pring. I don't see this changing with humans.

How could one possibly know the gender of a seller?

"to" :-)

Software Engineer for 28 years. Most fun I had was being a SysAdmin for a bunch of Solaris machines. Oracle DBA was a close second, followed by software developer.

No one knows on eBay the gender of the seller, so it simply has to be that women ask for 80 cents on the dollar.

The gender bias

What gender bias? Who the hell knows what the gender of a seller is in eBay? If I could identify female sellers on eBay and knew I'd get a better deal from women than men, I'd never stop buying from women exclusively - everyone would, and women sellers would dominate eBay.

Why not just put the blame squarely where it belongs - on the women who sell for less than men? Oh yeah - according to liberals, women only have rights, not responsibilities - everything is always men's fault.

So, their study was based solely upon eBay sellers whose gender was readily identifiable by buyers, and with the same or like items for sale? I’ve only bought a few items from eBay, but don’t recall even looking at seller details until I’d narrowed down to a couple of listings. The rating of the seller and how long they’d been at it, I recall looking at that and weighing the pros and cons. Even then, I don’t think I know to this day whether the seller was male or female.

If there actually is a consistent difference, it might be due to product descriptions, quality and detail of photos, any number of things, even willingness to discount the price. I just don’t think people buying on eBay are thinking, hmm, a female seller, I’m going to pay her less.

This is pure left-wing BS. Besides the anonymity a screen name usually provides, it is the seller that sets the price and it is the seller that agrees to a negotiated amount if one is offered. If a seller agrees to a smaller amount, that is their decision. It is not due to a gender related societal rift in the continuum.

Sheesh!

I bet women made more money on eBay back when they allowed them to sell used underpants

The fact that they arrived at “80%” makes it obvious this is just a “study” to come to a predetermined conclusion...”women make 80c on the dollar compared to men”.

Since there is no way to know who is a male seller and who is a female seller, perhaps the authors have given us evidence that the 80% amount is a natural law that we can't do anything about. No use even trying because it would be like fighting gravity. That should get their undies in a bind and put them in even a greater rage than normal.

I wonder how much of the difference is that the men selling are more professional in there presentation of an Item for sale on eBay. Most people shopping don’t pay attention to the sex of the seller

Women need to learn to buy low and sell high.

I’ve never not made a huge profit off of what I sold. A person with a sharp eye can resell items from a garage sale for tons above what they paid.

I even know women that do this. There is no excuse.

Kind of dumb. Who is buying? What is the product? This is a dumb stat.

I buy and sell kids’ and baby clothes on EBay, outgrown by mine, and I get the feeling at least 95% of the other sellers and buyer are moms doing the same.

For my older kids, we buy and sell electronics when we have something. In my female name. Never had any problem.

I am seldom aware of the gender of people from whom I buy on ebay.

I haven't purchased from Ebay in years but I never made a purchase decision based on the name of the seller, only the product, price and shipping costs.

Since EBay is gender blind, this is proof that men are better marketers or ad writers or price setters. It certainly does not prove gender bias.

That is most likely the truth, but leftists can't stand the truth. Men are probably more likely to ask for more and be unwilling to accept less. That's from me being a man and listening to many stories from men who fought hard to get the last penny they could out of whatever deal they were driving.

I just don't believe women are as likely to be driven for profit like men are. Men are just more competitive than women.
