How the heck can you tell the gender of the seller when the seller’s name is SanopeScattered or eBayKilla?

Men get higher profits because if you don’t you can’t get any nookie.

How do they know it's because of gender and not height or hair length or some other factor that buyers don't really care about.
Or god forbid, the kind of products the sellers are choosing to sell.

This is just as stupid as global warming, meaning it’s just made up BS to stir the public. It’s just repulsively stupid!

In my ebay buys, not once have I ever been concerned about the sellers gender. I do not even know how to figure it out, and don’t want to learn.

I just went to eBay and typed in "used Canon 1DX" and examined the first 25 or so entries. There wasn't a single one where I could determine the gender of the seller.

So.... I can only conclude that this "study" is revealing that for whatever reason, women tend to price things lower than men do. It would be up to them to change that if they want.... on the other hand, they might actually make more sales than men by pricing things lower.

“If one makes a big long list of what women are selling, and a big long list of what men are selling, that will explain everything.”

That’s what I figured too. Men sell more motorcycles and women sell more place settings. (just examples - no screams of stereotyping plesae).

Women sellers get 80 cents on the dollar compared to men

Well, the obvious solution to this injustice is to finally elect a female president. Oh wow, just by coincidence we happen to have the smartest woman on the planet running this time around... what a lucky break for the world!

Exactly. I was going to say automotive parts for men and lace doilies for the ladies.

:-)

Gee, could it be that they are less tough in negotiations than men? Or is it just plain ol’ sexism?

I call that article BS. I never know the gender of a seller unless we have done business before, and sometimes not even then.

Researchers who studied people who sell items on eBay (EBAY) turned up a surprising result: Women sellers get 80 cents on the dollar compared to men, according to a new study published in Science Magazine.

Men are natural negotiators. They can always get a better price.

Personal observations as an ebay seller:
* women more often post what they think it is worth without doing the research on what similar items actually sell for, often underpricing it
* they are less likely to negotiate, simply sell it and move on if they are offered a lower offer

The same issue comes up in women’s salaries - less likely to negotiate for a higher pay rate or push for a raise.

I always go by buyer comments, not gender of seller. I wonder if there’s a difference in buyer comments?

I think that it is due to how men and women frame the item differently. Men try to maximize profit while women want to feel good about the relationship...

That was myfirst thought. Maybe men are just better marketers.

They say that Ebay cooperated so I assume that’s where they got the gender of the seller.

If men are getting more bids, maybe they’re doing more to attract the bids in the first place.

Exactly. Short of requiring a random name, eBay is about as gender neutral as you can get. Now, once a product is for sale, marketing, customer support, speed of delivery, price, etc. become factors. Could it be that there is a gender difference in these?
