Some of Corman’s earlier AIP items sure were cheapies, though. Didn’t his “Rock All Night” take place on a single, cheesey, claustrophobic set? Haven’t seen that one in nearly forty years, but I remember its extreme low-budget. At least when he made “She Gods of Shark Reef” in Hawaii alongside that other flick with Richard Denning, he served up some outdoor scenes.
The Poe stuff is good, but I can’t think of a single post-Poe effort that Corman did that I found remotely interesting. When an overt sense of self-consciousness starts pervading low-budget horror/sci-fi schlock, it loses everything I found initially appealing about it.
