Miami (AFP) - The richest Americans tend to outlive the poorest by almost 15 years, and that gap has grown since 2001, said a major study of income and life expectancy this week.
The findings, published Sunday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, were based on more than one billion tax records from 1999 to 2014, as well as government mortality statistics.
The gap in life expectancy between the richest one percent and the poorest one percent was 14.6 years for men and 10.1 years for women, said the study led by Raj Chetty, an economics researcher at Stanford University.

They’re there, but they are certainly in the minority compared about those who obsessively watch their health and plot to live to 110.

Intelligence /wisdom might be a better CAUSE of living longer than the poor. Plus heredity. All people make some poor choices, yet some are better at living sensibly and not destroying their health by bad choices like heavy drinking, taking high risks in life, smoking, high speed daring risks, etc. etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Choices make a major difference, and some of us actually live a fairly sensible life in how much we exercise weekly/daily, how we maintain a good weight, eat healthy foods, etc. HEALTH INFORMATION and following it Much more effective than whether we are rich or poor. ... Farmers with a garden and a horse, a cow, and a good water source were ahead of the game. Little money involved in the earlier days when many lived on farms, had a few chickens and maybe a hog or two. Life style ... daily work, information, not abusing health by bad habits is huge. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ God is good. Praise God for His grace, tender mercy, loving kindness, Jesus, and the HOLY SCRIPTURES! AMEN.

The richest Americans tend to outlive the poorest by almost 15 years,...The comparison would only be valid if everything else was equal, but they aren't, so it isn't.

They also tend to be the largest consumers of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs.

Ever hear of Hollywood? The Hiltons?

Uh, maybe it is because the poor are killing each other off? ;-)

Perhaps it’s the same or a similar mixed bag of questionable life choices, personal and behavioral traits that made and kept someone poor that contributes to lowered life expectancy...
Injecting heroin, drinking a couple quarts of cheap wine a day, and living/sleeping on the streets don’t promote long life, and tend to skew the stats more than a little...

I wonder what it is in a third world pisshole like Mexico? You want to see disparities between the rich and the poor, that’s a better place to start.

There is a big difference between those who gained wealth through inheritance or had it drop into their laps due to some supposed talent and those who had to work their tailbone off to earn it.
Most of the perverted Hollywood and red doper diaper trust fund baby crowd aren't likely to make the rich who live 15 years longer than average.
