Sales of a 'Caucasians' shirt, mimicking the Cleveland Indians with a caricature of a white person, skyrocket after ESPN's Bomani Jones wears it on "Mike & Mike."
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Sales of 'Caucasians' shirts, depicting the Cleveland Indians' team mascot as a caricature of a white person, skyrocketed one day after ESPN's Bomani Jones wore one on a show, the shirt's creator said Friday.
Brian Kirby, who runs Shelf Life Clothing Co., told The Associated Press that more than 2,000 shirts have been sold since Jones sported one on Thursday while co-hosting the network's "Mike & Mike" show. At one point, Kirby said, traffic to his website was so heavy that the site crashed, and his internet host dropped him.

Least we kept it out of the hands of the effete Easterners, right? And up in the cold, hard, tough-as-nails Northland where a hockey title belongs.
I didn’t know it but Michigan has nine championships (more than any other team) and UND now has eight....the latter is a surprise to me as it has been so long...six losses in the final four in recent years and no title for sixteen years.
“All whites are rich, dontcha know, just like all Texans own oil wells.”
They don’t?
As a Polish-American I’m upset that we don’t have any teams called the “Fighting Polacks.” I mean Notre Dame has the “Fighting Irish”, I want my team, dammit!
That’s right; we all inherited billions of dollars from our slave-owning ancestors.../s
Realizing they could never make that stick in a country where so many current residents (of any color) had any relation to slaveowners, the definition of “white privilege” has been expanded to include anyone who had parents read to them as children. Apparently that is the gauge that determines whether you become a privileged white person or a poor unassimilated unemployable ethnic minority...
I am feeling “racial appropriation”.
Western -——the Pacesetters
I was always an “A” student. When busing and integration was just getting started in the early 70’s, our African-American 6th grade teacher had us all watch a film (remember those?) about races and their origins.
The film used the absolutely proper term “negroid”, just as you have in your post. I was the unlucky student who got asked to which racial group “black people” belonged. I answered with the term given in the film, “negroid” and got yelled at. “NEE-GRO!” she screamed.
This was my first introduction to a thin-skinned perpetually offended person. I was right, and I knew it, and just made a mental note of how foolish this “adult” was. My opinion of such people, no matter what race, has not changed since then. I was 12.
Who ever thought that kind of crap would ever make the mainstream of our society?
I’m offended because of the time change.
If I call them anything other than “African American”, they can attack me (sometimes physically) and it’s considered my fault.
Meanwhile - they call me “cracker”, “redneck”, “iceman”, “white boy” or “Caucasoid/Caucasian” and I’m just expected to smile and take it.
Yes, I have light skin.
But ethnically my ancestors didn’t come from the Caucus mountains in Russia.
They’re trying.
But winning games keeps getting in the way!
I watched most of that game... they absolutely dominated.
I made that graphic a couple of years ago when the school was tinkering (tinkerbelling?) with the idea of changing their name :)
No kidding?
I thought you had pulled up the graphic from somewhere on line.
It was a handy little piece of design...I liked the black eye, which would no doubt get me thrown off campus for saying out loud.
Do you have ties to the school? Previously I’ve mentioned that I picked my Freeper nick in protest against the name change.
It was pleasant and funny to see that whenever UND scored a goal, and the cameras panned around the arena, virtually all the North Dakota fans were wearing and waving Fighting Sioux regalia.
Cheers to you!
p.s. It occurs to me that you ought to market the Li’l Fightin Sue shirt to the fans up there somehow...see if the student paper would accept an ad, or the local Thrifty Nickel will take it, something.
No affiliation, just having fun :) and I just happened to turn on the game by chance, I enjoy a good hockey game, even more so when not NHL hyped.
Hmm, not sure I could pull it off but not a bad idea.
And yeah, the ND crowd had a lot to cheer about!
yep....another backfire that shows white pride when they wanted us to feel all sheepish....
