If we want free-range delegates, what about a free-range presidential college?
During the general election, we could allow members of the presidential college to vote for whoever they want to.
With his amazing powers, Cruz just might end up winning the White House. That would be helpful because he has so much trouble on the campaign trail.
Just imagine it — a ‘free-range’ presidential college.

Regarding freed up delegates, we had a similar controversy a couple years ago back when we had a freed up presidential college. Wigs were in fashion at the time, believe it or not.
A freed up presidential college was ‘the rage’ back then.
Literally.
Heck, why can’t Cruz just have the skies open and our Lord and Savior can descend upon us and tell us that Cruz is the chosen one?
Call it the electoral auction, the electoral caucus, the electoral block party, the electoral horse-trade, electoral game-show, bowling for delegates, etc.

Shortly after our nation’s founding people hated a freed up presidential college. Now Cruz is finding himself in the same uncomfortable position.

A Cruz-Rubio alliance at the district convention in Buford, Georgia helped to knock Trump supporters out of the district’s national delegation altogether. Cruz supporters implied that Trump’s people would “embarrass” the district at the convention in Cleveland. Then things got heated.
“This morning, I attended Georgia 7th Congressional District GOP convention as a delegate and a Donald Trump supporter. We were there to elect the 3 delegates and 3 alternates to the national convention,” Ronnie Kurtz told Breitbart News. “Per the primary results, two slots were for Trump, and one was for Rubio. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% Cruz finished third in the primary and had no delegates allotted to him…Nonetheless, the hall was stacked with Cruz delegates.”

Cruz is ignorant of how he's being played, or he thinks he's so smart he can outplay the players. He seems to be unaware he is playing Trotsky in this vote stealing shenanigan. When the party is done with him, he's gone.

The electoral collage is described in the Constitution as a means of curbing populist enthusiasms.
The selection of candidates is left up to the states. If the states want primaries, fine. If they want to have a sleep over and play spin the bottle, fine.
