This is all I'm going to say regarding the Republican race for the nomination in 2016.
I started out supporting Trump, not for his politics, but for the way he was poking a stick in the eye of the GOPe, Democrats, media and everyone else who attacked him.
I called it a breath of fresh air in a world of conformists.
I shied away from him and leaned toward Cruz after Trump just seemed to go off-hook (telecom term) with his rhetoric. I expressly wished he'd calm down the language and become more presidential.
To this day, I lean 60/40 Trump over Cruz. But make no mistake,
I WOULD CRAWL OVER BROKEN GLASS TO VOTE FOR TRUMP OR CRUZ.
Hitlary or Rumplehair need to be stopped, period, end of statement.
I have grandchildren. I want to go out of this world with a hope they will grow up in the United States of America, not the United States of the United Nations, land of free stuff and no toilet paper.
That is all.
I’m about where you are, too. With all his flaws, I see no way Trump would be worse than any Dem.
Thank you so much for your post. There has been so much viciousness and hurt feelings among the Trump and Cruz supporters that we forget just how evil the Democrat party is and how set they are to destroying this country. After we have a nominee, and it had better be one of these two (preferably both, for President and VP), it will be time to come together and get the nominee across the line, through what I expect to be one of the most vicious campaigns in history. The Left is not just going to allow Obama’s “achievements” to get reversed without a vicious fight. The creation of the BLM fake movement is just a warm-up. We will have no chance unless united. I don’t want to hear “if so and so is the nominee, there is no way I am voting for him”!
This is the ultimate downfall of the GOP. We've been voting with this attitude for decades, and it has only served one single purpose: to push the GOP further to the left. At some point, we will either say enough is enough, you'll do as the voters say, or we'll start over, regardless of the cost. Voting the "lesser of evils" has not nor will it do anything to revive America.
Good analysis. Not everyone will get their preferred candidate. I believe that God will put in place who he wants. Many on this forum have pummeled each other and have relished in their division. Whomever God chooses, we must unite behind for the good of the country. A house divided can not stand..Thank you for your words of unity.
I’m with you, except I’m 60/40 foe Cruz. Early in the campaigns, I though we’d have an informal Trump/Cruz alliance. Those hopes went to hell in a hand basket with the derangement and estrangement of the two campaigns. The split never should have occurred and, unless healed, will lead to certain Republican defeat in the fall, IMHO.
I’m no longer an optimist.
Thanks for saying it. Any Republican is better than any RAT.
I used to like Cruz but now I detest the creepy weasel. It’s Trump or dump the GOP. If the GOP screws over Trump I’ll write him in or just stay home.
Reverse the equation and you have described the way I see it. And I agree, I will gladly vote for either man.
And not just as the lesser evil against Clinton or Bernie, but as a potentially great president, either one. Both of them.
We are so fortunate that the only two men I would trust in the White House are the only two men left standing on the GOP side. We can’t lose with either man in the White House. I ignore the mudslinging, I know who these guys are and I look forward to seeing what they will do once in the White House.
Obviously I prefer one over the other, but even the loose cannon is rock solid on at least several things I care about, and has made some interesting comments on other issues as well that make me think he would do the right thing there too. Actually, both guys are pretty close on the issues, right up and down the line, so the choice winds up being which guy has the stiffer spine, which guy is more willing to fight when it matters, and so far I see two guys who are prepared to fight, bone knives and bear claws, all the way through.
So I’m happy. Whichever guy emerges from the cage at the end of the match, I’m happy.
As a voice of reason here, you are free to do what you wish. It is my humble opinion that not voting for the Republican nominee is equivalent to voting for Hitlary.
I don’t do name calling or insults. Do what your heart desires but I will say this.
If Hitlary wins and you didn’t vote for the Republican nominee, you have no right to complain about anything she does.
“off-hook”.....heh, I still have “digital” dialing on the land line.....
Exactly my position. Trump for all his flaws would be infinitely better than Mussolini in a pantsuit or the doddering socialist
That’s great that you have grandchildren :)
I am 47 and can promise you that there is an army in the 40 to 50 year old group that will not sit back if we lose in November.
We’re older, but we’re not in wheelchairs.
All of my friends, NYers of Italian decent (but I certainly expect the south and Midwest feel the same way) are ready to explode if we don’t win in November.
Ditto in Enduro guy land.
My oldest daughter tried and tried with no success. Then she had 3 in 4 years. My middle daughter had one within 2 weeks of my oldest daughters youngest.
They’ll grow up as tight cousins. I love them beyond comprehension.
Amen... well said... Supreme Court.. Supreme Court.. Supreme Court.. that needs to be the focus..
Well, in truth there’s no way in hell Cruz could ever win nationally, let alone here in CA. The only GOP nominee who could conceivably win here is Trump, and he would be a long shot.
I’m just not that sure that Trump can actually beat Hillary. It’s hard to believe, but last night, she got more votes than Trump, Cruz and Kasich combined.
Of course, it’s a closed primary and difficult to predict what might happen in a 1-on-1 situation. Trump and Clinton both have the highest unfavorable ratings (supposedly 57% for Trump and 52% for Hillary) but are still the biggest vote-getters.
Go figure...
If the Republican wins and you voted for him, I guess you also have no right to complain about anything he does.
Remember, Trump will have Bernie supporters (to some extent) who will not vote for Hitlary. He will also have crossover Dem votes from people who couldn’t vote for him last night because they had to vote in the dem primary.
I have a feeling both candidates have loaded dossiers on their opponent and there will be mudslinging like I’ve never seen in my lifetime.
