Many of the life boats were never lowered because the people didn’t believe the ship was sinking!

In a final, ironic twist, it turned out that Beatties body was buried at sea on his mothers birthday, almost at the exact spot in the Atlantic where she had been born 82 years previously on a ship bound for Canada.

104 years later, a reminder to all of us how precious and fleeting life is. I was walking today and smelled the smell of grass - just waking up this spring from its winter dormancy. It just triggered memories of playing in the grass as a child, decades ago, and how the grass smelled then, and just how new the world was to me then. Never take a moment for granted.

Really nice memory. Wow. Thanks for sharing. It’s amazing what can cause “triggers” (not to use it like the left does). Sometimes very vague memories or feelings will be recalled by something someone says or a sight or a smell, and sometimes things more specific. Anyway, your post gave me a good feeling, and also a sad feeling. It’s all very fleeting.

Someone mentioned the cicadas(we called the locust) are going to be numerous this year....I remember being about 9 here in the deep south...it was deafening at night but completely memorable. A warm feeling.

It’s nice to get those memory induced tingles and warmth.
I posted on article on cicadas the other day:

Wow, I did not know that. What a horrible tragedy the sinking of the Titanic was. I guess the real-life story isn’t the same as the movie? Of course, it isn’t - but, I loved both the original and the remake.

*** Gerdas father Nils Persson was eventually given his daughters wedding ring, but only after he had shown proof of his right to have it. ***
My Great Grandfather in Sweden was named Nils Persson. That name is probably like John Smith is here, or probably these days, like the name Achmed Mohammad is there.

Almost as good as that movie where Tom Cruise gets killed about 87 times.

I was trying to remember where I saw it. I knew it was on You Tube regarding a song, but with my bad memory and tired brain, I didn't think I would remember it tonight. I shared it with a friend at the time and he liked it. But it just came to me. I was listening to an REO Speedwagon song on YT a few months back, and I saw this comment (see below). It reminded me of what you two said...(sorry, totally not related to the subject of the Titanic): REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJzNZ1c5C9c Wes Bervig 4 months ago This song takes me back. I remember when it came out in the fall of 1980. I was in tenth grade and on a certain night at two o clock in the morning I snuck out of my house in Lenexa, Kansas through the back door leading out to the screened in backyard porch. There were four foot tall snowdrifts and it was freezing with a light breeze blowing, but other than the sound of the breeze blowing and the rustling of the bare trees in our backyard all was quiet. The night sky was overcast but the moons glow could be seen through the clouds. It was then that I felt an incredible happiness that I have not felt since then.

Very neat...as you said, probably a John Smith type situation.

LOL!
I actually liked that movie (The Day after Tomorrow, or Tomorrow never comes, or something like that) - and not just for the killing Tom Cruise part.
Generally I don't like movies that have a 'World without God' undercurrent, but I found this one strangely entertaining.

I might have to watch it again with a more critical eye.
I spent the first pass giggling every time Cruise bought it.
