That’s where route planning comes in, and having a land team to steer you to the best tail winds.

They'll never have to buy a drink at any aviators' bar hangout.

Nor should they.

“Where are the solar-powered Boeing 747’s?”

Now don’t pounce, I think this is great, but El Rushbo did ask that question once.

If they use solar PV units to power the oil pumps in the field and to power the refineries making JET-A fuel, does that count? ...:^)

"...But the plane doesn't make noise and doesn't pollute..."

BS.

If the plane uses batteries, it pollutes.

Your reply must have been intended for someone else, because I certainly didn’t write that.

you know, staring at the ceiling and looking to see if the vents are clean is more interesting than many of your threads.

Well, I find this interesting.

Not to mention all the jet fuel they have to burn to fly the support crew around the world with them.

I thought it was a non-stop flight, so why would there be a support crew?

It was only non-stop from Hawaii to San Francisco. The trip around the world actually took several months, including a couple of month layover in Hawaii to fix issues with the plane. The support crew had to travel around the world with the plane.

Well, it looks like it will take place over two years time for this plane to circumnavigate the globe. A sailboat could do it in a few months with near zero emissions except for what it took to build the boat and sails.

A US Navy submarine did it completely under water with ZERO CO2 emissions.
