If I don’t pet and hug her, she will pester me to no end...until I do...

I tend to agree, but I’d say it’s different from dog to dog.

My German Shepherd likes hugs when she is in her submissive posture, and she hates them when she is ready to play. Now she won’t get angry if I try to hug her when she wants to play, but she will run away from the hug, go grab one of her toys and bring it to me to let me know.

She will let me hug her as much as I want when she knows I am leaving.

You just have to know your dog and their body language.

Tell that to my chocolate lab. As soon as I sit in my recliner she jumps on to my lap and goes through a head rubbing routine with me while I hold her in both arms. When she’s done with that, she sleeps in my lap until I get up.

Walter the ranch dog loves his hugs. A Schnauzer/Poodle mix with a Schnauzer cut, he’s quite aggressive when he wants that sort of attention. Boundless energy!
