If it’s #1, Sessions or Lee would be a good choice.
For #2 I think Rubio, Gingrich would be good. Susana Martinez might be good, but she still has not been defined and you remember how the media destroyed Sarah Palin who was an unknown at the time.
Depends on the state polls. If he’s sure he’s going to win he’ll focus on who’d be a great president, if he’s not look to NY, NJ, MI, OH, VA. Waste of time if we fail to win.

Trump is the same age Reagan was in 1980, and very healthy. No reason he can’t serve two terms. I don’t see him picking Sessions though. I do think it will be someone younger. He’s already said he wants someone who knows DC and can help him get his agenda passed. Not sure who that person might be though.

Ted Cruz has no honor or integrity. He is unfit for public office.
