A man who was shot to death in an attempted robbery in New Orleans over the weekend had come to the city to plan his wedding, officials said Monday at a press conference.
Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse identified the man as 25-year-oldThomas Rolfes.
New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison said Rolfes had marks on his hands that would indicate a struggle, Fox 8 reported.
The 2011 Tulane University graduate had just flown into New Orleans late Friday night and went out with friends while his fiancée slept in their hotel room, according to Harrison. His body was found around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Claiborne Avenue and Amelia Street.
Harrison said Monday that investigators are going through surveillance video, some of which shows Rolfes at a bar and then at a convenience store on Claiborne buying two bottles of water.

Baltimore hipster is name calling? Wow. Sensitive.
You can walk the streets in New Orleans in your underwear too.
You can go out after dark in the French Quarter - how else do you get to the jazz clubs, the restaurants and Preservation Hall?! The streets are crowded and while I don’t recommend hanging out on Bourbon Street because it gets wild and is full of cheesy tourist traps, I’ve never had a problem walking on it. It’s a nighttime city! But don’t hang out by yourself, drinking, until 4:30am in lousy neighborhoods...
Well by 4:30 in the morning he was dead, not exactly his fault he was still out.
Answer:
he was dead.
Why is everybody so obsessed with him being “out” at 4:30. THAT’S WHEN HIS BODY WAS FOUND. HE WAS ALREADY DEAD. Come on people, stop blaming the victim here.
No, you are 100% blaming the victim. Also you are not bothering to notice that 4:30 was when they found his body, so he wasn’t deliberately out then and his judgement had nothing to do with it.
Question: Why are you OOT-AND-ABOOT at 430AM in New Orleans?
...
According to the title he was planning his wedding.
He was still breathing when he was found. Check the reports. Unless the reports have been updated and then maybe you can link?
From the excerpt:
His body was found around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Claiborne Avenue and Amelia Street.
Now maybe he was on last gasp, but that still wouldn’t really be his choice being out that late.
He was on his last gasp at 4:30am. Which means he was out at 4:00-4:30pm - by himself. Unless you think he was lying on a street since midday but so far I haven’t read that. We can only go on what we read in the newspapers at this point.
>>>Really, I can do all those things in my safe back yard, and I can do them in my underwear<<<
You should go to Vegas instead.
Not sure what your agenda is, discostu, but the timeline shows.
1) Hanging around outside Ms. Mae’s bar at Magazine and Napolean at 2:39
2) At gas station at Louisiana and Claiborne at 3:30
3) Found a couple of blocks away at Amelia and Claiborne at 4:30.
While the gas station was not on the most direct line from the bar to the hotel, it was about equidistant from the two, and the route one would probably take if they wanted to stay on the boulevards instead of cutting through the neighborhoods.
He was apparently the last of the crowd to leave the bar.
So, yes, making himself a target of opportunity on foot in New Orleans in the early hours probably was a contributing factor. One can be a victim of random violence in New Orleans, but it always helps to try to make the wise choices.
It says his body was found at 4:30 am - doesn't say what time he died! Could have been midnight.
I lived in OK for a spell, I could drink my morning coffee on the front porch in my BVD’s, no one could see the house.
Some of the reports - and you can find them yourself - say he was breathing at 4:30am. I’ve written this five times now.
What’s the big deal? A young man uses foolish judgment on the eve of his wedding and gets shot in a lousy neighborhood. Perhaps if people took marriage seriously, they would keep to better areas (the French Quarter) and not stay out until the morning of their nuptials. That seems weird to me.
Could have been wounded well before that. Joe Michael Strazinski crawled for 6 hours to help after he got stabbed.
My “agenda” is that people who blame the victim are scum and offend me.
Please, have it your way. I wasn’t there.
