A man who was shot to death in an attempted robbery in New Orleans over the weekend had come to the city to plan his wedding, officials said Monday at a press conference.

Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse identified the man as 25-year-oldThomas Rolfes.

New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison said Rolfes had marks on his hands that would indicate a struggle, Fox 8 reported.

The 2011 Tulane University graduate had just flown into New Orleans late Friday night and went out with friends while his fiancée slept in their hotel room, according to Harrison. His body was found around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Claiborne Avenue and Amelia Street.

Harrison said Monday that investigators are going through surveillance video, some of which shows Rolfes at a bar and then at a convenience store on Claiborne buying two bottles of water.

My wife and fun-centric friends want me to go to N.O.

I said no.

"Oh, but you can walk down the street with an open container of booze, and the food is great, and music!"

Really, I can do all those things in my safe back yard, and I can do them in my underwear.

From the photos this looks like a scummy neighborhood. And what was he doing out at 4:30am?! Not that there is anything wrong with that...

I go to the French Quarter on occasion. If you follow the rules - don’t hang out in lousy neighborhoods past 12am, you will have the time of your life. I’m planning on going on my birthday this year. It’s a beautiful city in many ways.

The lesson? Do NOT go to New Orleans for ANY reason. God tried to flush that toilet a decade ago but it was clogged and the waste just wouldn’t go down.

EXACTLY. My SiL and BiL went there and had a great time, I won’t set foot in that city. Another is Baltimore. In fact I won’t go into any city anymore unless I absolutely have to.

Question: Why are you OOT-AND-ABOOT at 430AM in New Orleans?

I can understand tourists getting shot in New Orleans, but someone who went to college there really should know better than to prowl the streets alone at 4:30 in the morning while he had a good looking woman waiting for you in your hotel room.

Was he looking for drugs? 4:30am? Let’s wait and see. Look at the area that is cordoned off - right outside what looks like an African-American barbershop.

Of course, I could be wrong. That’s why I hang out here.

The usual city-bashing from freepers. Some things never change. I have friends in Baltimore and visit Nola as much as I can. These are fine cities if you know what you’re doing. The Baltimore riots occurred in an inner-city far from nicer areas like Fells Point. Why would any middle-class white person go to an inner-city unless it was to buy drugs or do a poverty tour?

It’s a personal choice. I have no need for cities. Your mileage may vary.

I've been once with the wifey. We both agree that it smells like pee and puke. But if you are into VooDoo (we're not) there is a shop on every block.

Been there a number of times. Really enjoyed myself. Good music, great food, off the wall people watching.

But watched the events surrounding Katrina unfold. I'll never go back.

Married in NO? Hell NO! That’s the most disgusting, dirty, corrupt city in America, and even though they got rid of a lot of problems in Katrina, they still have more than anyone can imagine. I wouldn’t spend one second or one penny there.
