Beastie Boys original member John Berry has died, according to a report. He was 52. Berry, who is credited with coming up with the bands name, died on Thursday in hospice care at a facility in Danvers, Massachusetts at 7:30 a.m., Rolling Stone reports. The musician's father, John Berry III, told the magazine that his son had battled frontal lobe dementia, which had gotten worse in the past few months. When the band formed in 1981, Berry played as the guitarist, before leaving the group in 1982 after performing on the band's first EP Polly Wog Stew. While Berry was also a member of other bands including Even Worse, Big Fat Love, Highway Stars and Bourbon Deluxe, his original band mates still acknowledged Berry's early work with them when the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. No information regarding a memorial service has been released.

It is a shame. My dad died of brain cancer. Any chance I get to educate people about the disease, I take it.
My dad was an easygoing person that everyone loved. Then he wasn’t anymore and people were mad at him.
It made him worse and I didn’t understand what was going on. The diagnosis of a glioblastoma was devastating. He died two and a half months later.
It happens in the blink of an eye.
That song and no sleep ‘til Brooklyn are two of my favorites.
rip
While not as popular, they made quite a bit of punk rock stuff - https://youtu.be/lu5VkypHzoI
so sorry about your Dad.
we are all temporary in this life.
if I ever get the chance, I intend to ask the good Lord why He made our lives here so short (and our pets even more so, why!?)
but anyway that’s a bit arrogant of me to be sure...
please rest assured you will see your Father again in due course, and that you will never lose him again...
Blessings,
fhc
so very sorry.....
you will see him again in due course,... and never lose his friendship again after that....
blessings,
fhc
“When the band formed in 1981, Berry played as the guitarist, before leaving the group in 1982...”
God rest his soul. I wonder how many days was he in this very important group that wasn’t overrated in the least?
Freegards

Sorry he died. RIP. Could barely tolerate most of their music, Brass Monkey being the exception. I freaking hate that song.
Thanks. Like I said....a real good, wholesome guy. The world needs more.
They started out as punk. They can be seen punking out in the 1985 movie “Krush Groove.” IIRC they switched to hip hop not long after the movie.
My Dad only lasted 2 months from his diagnosis of glioblastoma of the brain stem.
Before he got sick he was a great family man, but a little gruff and loud.
His personality changed too, but he became sweeter and more sentimental. He suffered no pain. We were devastated but thankful.
Sorry your Dad had to go through that, it must have been
very difficult.
DEINITELY the world needs more!
take care,
According to http://www.healthline.com/health-slideshow/frontal-lobe-dementia-symptoms-causes-treatment#4, “Frontal lobe dementia has one known risk factor: your genes.” and “Frontal lobe dementia shortens a persons life span. According to the Alzheimers Association, most people with a frontal lobe dementia disorder live an average of six to eight years after the first symptoms appear. In some cases, people live as few as two years.”
We’ve been joking and predicting his death for 20+ years now, and he’s somehow still rocking. Kudos to him.
Beastie Boys were originally a punk band... they released an album called Pollywog Stew that was punk and featured a punk version of Egg Raid on Mojo.
“-————and featured a punk version of Egg Raid on Mojo.”

What type of music was it before the punk version?
