They can and DO take scholarships away for many many reasons. Having information that an athlete is behaving in a way counter to the values of the university is a perfectly valid reason to dump him. And heck they don’t even have to say it was for accusations, they can just say he’s not performing up to expectation. And what will happen to them, what DOES happen to them, is NOTHING. Black kids get their scholarships yanked all the time. In the university/ athlete relationship the university has all the power, and they exercise it on a fairly regular basis.
I know they went to the cops and there were convictions. Why were the other complaints swept under the rug? Lack of evidence? Or, like you said, were the cops involved? We can’t just assume that’s the case. If the report shows Baylor strongly pushed the women to go to the cops and the cops swept it under the rug, then the Waco Police are guilty.
And believe me, when I lived there the Waco Police were about as corrupt as they could be. I don’t think anything has changed.
You’re certainly right about that. Big time football makes a lot of people a lot of money. Especially local businesses.
Not a football fan although I am a Texan and Baptist. It makes my heart glad to see some moral offenses put before football defenses.
This man needs to have a fuller view of right and wrong, not follow the sin of omission.
Well, at least one of the girls went to the campus cops, who said that it happened off campus, and they wouldn’t do anything to help. Others went to the Title IX office and were ignored there.

Tom Osborne of Nebraska followed that same model to win those championships in the 90’s. Anyone remember what a mess Lawrence Phillips turned out to be?

He wasn’t fired because of his win-loss record. His program has been hit with some major rape scandals & he’s turned a blind eye to his players’ shananigans.
Baylor’s reputation isn’t very good right now, to put it mildly.
And Baylor isn’t just any university, they hold themselves out at a Baptist University and they don’t try to hide it.
Argh....My granddaughter just graduated from Baylor May 14.

For what it’s worth, my great-great-grandfather William Carey Crane moved Baylor to Waco in 1885. He was president from 1863 to 1885.

Numerous examples of sexual assault by Baylor athletes that was kept hush-hush by Briles and other members of the Baylor athletic department. This is what garnered Briles his termknation.
Misplaced, thanks for the link. Obviously the Waco Police were helping Baylor cover all of this up. From reading the article it’s also obvious Briles has had a bunch of thugs on his team that he did not discipline. The sad thing is Baylor could have won without these players.
I just read the article in the Waco Tribune Herald and it’s obvious they’ve got a lot on Briles and the rest. The problem is the specifics won’t be released to the public. But I have a feeling that some assistant coaches told the truth and that was that Briles DID know about the Boise State player and he lied about it.
From the board of regents’ statement I predict a lot of other women will be coming forward wanting money. Some may be simply trying to cash in but I’m sure there are a lot more women out there who were assaulted and never came forward. This is going to end up like the Bill Cosby. Women are going to start coming forward.

I agree. Baylor could have won without any of these players. Apparently Briles didn’t believe it. The proof is they won the Russell Athletic Bowl without a quarterback. There’s no doubt he covered for the thugs and so did his higher ups.
Back in the 70s Arkansas was scheduled to play powerhouse Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. Three players, two of them “stars”, were accused of sexual assault and Holtz kicked them off the team. The bookies wouldn’t even take bets on the game. Arkansas won 31-10.
Wife and I were looking forward to going to some Baylor games. Today we requested a refund for our bear club membership. I have a feeling we’re not the only ones.
Now the NCAA will get involved. Baylor could be through with football completely. This is as bad as Penn State. But at Penn State one young coach reported it. Apparently EVERY Baylor coach kept quiet.
