Ash was a liberal troll who infected FR in the 1998-2000 era. He was banned multiple times and came back in multiple aliases.

Don Morgan was a Freeper who confronted Ash whenever he would appear and reappear with his socialist trash.

The running battles were legendary and are written up in some of the Freeper Lore threads that have been posted from time to time. Here's an old Freeper Lore thread:

Don Morgan had a standard post called an Ash Alert, that he posted whenever Ash was discovered under a new alias. An actual Ash Alert has been captured for posterity on my profile page. It went something like this:

 * * * ASH ALERT* * *

Phoenix Flies aka The "Newashman" aka ASH aka ReduxAsh aka at least five other screen names is a hoaxer who has been banned from posting to this forum. Not once, but many times. He will be banned again soon.

HE WILL, WHEN CHALLENGED, PRETEND INNOCENCE. His use of multiple aliases is, itself a hoax. He is an electronic crasher who is here AGAINST THE EXPRESS WISHES OF THE OWNER OF THIS FORUM.

Attempting to engage him in debate plays into his hands. He is here to create dissent and to disrupt the Free Republic. That is his pattern and the reason his posting privileges have been banned.

Thanks for sharing the history of Ash.

I’ve heard long time Freepers reminisce about him many times, and surmised that he was a much despised troll. Freeper lore is full of them, unfortunately. I’ve seen quite a few come and go in my own time here.
