A critical factor is the harshness of winter or LACK OF IT. In the west AS OF LATE they can STAY without migrating south. This has been proven. In the east as of late they probably don't want to stick around for the brutal snow storms and opt to migrate. I think it's an individual decision but lately can cost them especially in the East.

In my area I have one year'round. Probably doesn't want to risk giving up my feeder. LOL

FWIW, in this peak time for Hummingbirds I have to refill my feeder ONCE A WEEK. That’s 16 ounces of food consumed in one week. Lotsa little tummy-fulls. LOL
