Also, that gorilla wasn't harming the boy; it look as though he was trying help him. OTOH, he didn't follow his handlers orders and leave and no, nobody knew what he would have done.

BS. If the GD zoo can’t put up a barrier to prevent little kids from getting into wild animal enclosures or cages, they have no GD business being in the zoo business.

Sure he could have. But he didn’t, did he? The kid was not doubt stunned by his fall and probably in a state of shock in the presence of the animal. But the gorilla just stood there. I think the poor thing was wondering where the other humans were and what they were going to do about the situation. If the gorilla had intended to harm the kid they have displays of aggressive behavior before they let you have it. As I said, I’m not an expert but I’ve done a little bit of research on them since this happened. Despite their size and incredible power they are not an outwardly aggressive and violent kind of creature. But the powers that be felt otherwise. So be it. Sad situation over all.

That chance of the animal killing the kid was removed when the gorilla was shot, unfortunately. Bottom line here is there are stupid moronic parents everywhere and I mean everywhere. So if your going to go into the zoo business, ya better make damn sure little kids can't gain access the enclosures/cages.
It's kind of a no brainer.
Some years back a kid fell into a gorilla enclosure and the animal picked the kid up and put it by a door it knew humans came in and out of to get into the animals enclosure. How come they didn’t shoot that gorilla?
Color me SHOCKED!!!....NOT!! Was the “sperm Donor” THERE?? In a few months there will be a HUGE LAWSUIT against the ZOO and their PATRONS!!
The boy kept saying he wanted to go SWIMMING with the GORILLA!!! HELLO!!!! MOTHER!!! HUGE FLASHING SIGN!! IDIOT! Maybe she should have the child taken away and her WELFARE PAYMENT should be reduced!! Yeah...tell me she’s not on the DOLE.
Both male and female primates are usually VERY gentle with their babies and treat them with care; us included.
This zoo’s barriers exceeded the barrier requirements and everyone there is still trying to figure out just HOW a 4 year old managed to get beyond them all !

There’s no way it took a second for the kid to get away, it occurred over the span of a few minutes and the mother was not paying attention the whole time.
