Cruz to NBC: Trump 'Inappropriate to Attack a Judge's Race or Ethnicity'
NBC News ^ | Jun 6 2016, 5:06 pm ET | NBC News

Posted on 06/06/2016 2:35:52 PM PDT by conservative98

Here's an interesting exchange between NBC News and former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz that happened just now:

NBC: Donald Trump's remarks about Judge Curiel, are his concerns legitimate?

Cruz: Of course it's inappropriate to be attacking a federal judge's race or ethnicity. You're going to have ask Donald to explain the reason he says the things he does. I'm not going to try to do so.

NBC: Ben Sasse said that what Donald Trump said about the judge is pure definition of racism. Is Donald Trump a racist?

Cruz: As I said, it is obviously inappropriate to attack a judge's race or ethnicity. Beyond that, you're going to have to ask Donald.

NBC: (As Cruz walks away): Last question — Senator, can you fathom though still at this point supporting Donald Trump in November?

(No response -- goes into office)

Hey, Travis, who was pinged to the thread.

I’m not doing anything of the sort, all the way down the line of your post.

I’m no GOP ass kisser. I love the South. I’m no troll (if you were referring that to me).

You’re pulling a lot out of one reply.

I said your post was ridiculous because you said that AF Vet “must be a woman.” I have no idea whether they are or not. But of all the possible responses in an argument, that one made the least sense.

And you apparently don’t know whether I am or not, either. You also don’t know about my own long-time efforts IRL to help keep our country from sliding into the abyss and to preserve our freedoms.

Making a few posts on an online forum, saying that people ought to be clear and make their case, isn’t going to stop anyone’s efforts.

Have a good day.

Cruz’ quote in the title is correct; Trump was wrong to inject the ethnicity of an American citizen in the debate.

Cruz's quote: "Of course it's inappropriate to be attacking a federal judge's race or ethnicity.".

In the interest of fairness and truth, Cruz is a liar.

a) Trump did NOT mention anyone's race. That was an ad lib LIE from Cruz.

b) Cruz purposely gave NO weight or context to the relationship Judge Curiel has with La Raza. Shouldn't he have clarified that matter? Or is Cruz himself pro-La Raza?

c) Why is "attacking a federal judge" for ANY reason "inappropriate" Do you believe they should be immune from legit criticism?

d) NO public official -- regardless of ethnicity and race -- should be immune to legitimate criticism -- whether it's their loyalty to the US, their commitment to the US Constitution, or their supposed PC impunity from criticism BASED ON RACE, COLOR, OR CREED.

e) Judge Curiel has indeed a conundrum; he has a conflict of interest based on his membership in the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, and their loyalty to annexing USA as part of Mexico. Moreover, his law firm has paid $675,000 to the Clintons for speeches.

Are you trying to form an argument that it is legitimate to impugn an American citizen based on race or ethnicity ? That would surely be a losing argument.

He [Trump] should have said right out of the gate that it was because of the Judge’s associations with La Raza that his impartiality can’t be assumed. Leave his nationality out of it. It’s too late now though.

I do agree with your preference for the way this could have been handled. BUT, it is NOT too late to turn this around.

Yes, Trump could and should have immediately cited Judge Curiel's La Raza membership in the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association as too inappropriate to be involved in his case based on a presumed prejudice. Based on that he could have asked why he's even a Federal Judge;

Trump could have also tied Curiel's loyalty to La Raza's agenda and goal to annex USA as part of Mexico. (THAT is where the "nationality" component of Trump's charge merits consideration.)

What Trump *did* do -- whether by design or not -- was scrutinize the questionable bonafides, credentials, and loyalties of federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel.

Why was a La Raza/"The Race" sympathizer with obvious loyalties TO Mexico of ALL people appointed to rule on Trump's case?

That’s a good question. I’m at work now and can’t do any in-depth research, but I recall that the first judge on the case retired and he took over.

His lawyers at O’Melneny & Myers should have asked for his recusal off the top... not after an unfavorable ruling occurred.

"Trying to form an argument"?? Did you read ANY of my bullet points?

"American citizens" are still amongst those who commit treason. OR, sabotage American sovereignty. Or do you disagree with that premise?

Judge Curiel's loyalty to the USA is certainly Trumped by his loyalty to Mexico. "Mexican" is a NATIONALITY.

Curiel's unholy alliance to La Raza and their agenda is SELF-INDICTING. He is a loyalist TO La Raza/"THE RACE" and to Mexico.Or do you believe otherwise?

Do you also believe that "impugning" anti-white #BLM based on their self-admitted hatred of white America is also a "losing argument"? Do you also believe that "impugning" certain Mooselimbs is a "losing argument"?

I look forward to your rebuttal.

I was spared the zot by Kathy in Alaska, and 2 others who immediately appealed my ZOT. You sure rounded up the proper suspects. Thank God they are all long gone.

Yes, I read your argument and commented on the salient point. It is a given that an American citizen can be fairly critiqued or impugned for behavior, yet not for race or ethnic heritage. Do you affirm or deny that civil right of all American citizens ?

You can form the argument that an American citizen's affiliations (La Raza, for example) affect his behavior. To argue that because an Amercan citizen's parents originated in another country (Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, etc. for example) he cannot exercise civil rights as an American citizen is a losing argument.

As for religion, that is also a protected right of American citizens. Would you favor an amendment to rescind that right, or only apply it to certain religions ?

“I know exactly where I am.”

Trolls usually do.

This time you and your nasty little crew will find trying to enforce Political Correctness a good deal harder.

Last time around your gang shouted down discussions over illegal immigration by smearing people with charges of racism, the same game you are trying in this controversy over Trump and the judge. People here know that Trump’s complaint is about the judge’s La Raza activism and not his race, but you’re eagerly carrying the media and GOPe party line that it’s race. And it’s not because you don’t know the difference.

Last time your gang managed to get people banned with your lies and smears. Memories are long.
