Bill O'Reilley Pushes Assault Weapons Ban
Opinion ^ | 15 Jun 16 | Xzins

Posted on 06/15/2016 5:17:32 AM PDT by xzins

Bill O'Reilly, cable news rating king, called for America to get rid of assault weapons. Applying a fair self-assessment, O'Reilly stated that he wasn't very knowledgeable about weapons, so he didn't want to get into distinctions. At one point he was hyperbolic, saying that Americans shouldn't have mortars and a few other battlefield weapons systems.

Sadly, O'Reilly doesn't seem to realize that the Orlando shooter did not use an assault rifle, a weapon that is characterized for the most part by its having an automatic mode. Latest reports are saying the murderer in Orlando used a Sig Sauer, a weapon that can use a variety of ammo types. Early reports that he used an AR-15 have been disputed.

Essentially, O'Reilly needs to realize that these guns, and especially the AR-15, are a gun of choice for controlling small predators. The .223 round has the ability efficiently to take out coyotes, foxes, and the like. Of course it can also kill a human being, but it is in fact less deadly than some larger caliber hunting rifles that also require a separate finger pull for each round. These rifles also have multiple round magazines. 10 Round magazines for a 30.06 are pretty common. And the round has greater knock down power.

So, since O'Reilly didn't clarify, it is safest to assume he is asking for a ban on America's favorite hunting rifles. He doesn't distinguish between automatic and separate finger pull per round, but it is the latter that most 'assault gun' opponents demonize.

Finally, the Orlando terror attack is not about guns. The Orlando attack is about the USA being attacked by international terrorism and by a known wolf. Paris proved that terrorists will have lethal means from bombs to guns because they have connections with terrorists. They have training from terrorists.

The real question of the Orlando murders is how this jihadist son of a Taliban infatuated, Afghan father visited Saudi, had a suicide bomber friend, made multiple threats over the years, and STILL failed to alert those watching for these things.

But O'Reilly, minimizing these facts and not knowledgeable about guns by his own admission, wants to take your hunting rifles.

“O’Reilly told Trump the other night there’s no evidence that refugees are infiltrated by terrorists.”

"Remember the October Surprise and remember Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill, folks. Remember the left's battle cry: "The nature of the evidence is irrelevant; it's the seriousness of the charge that matters." - Rush in 2003

Let's turn the left's own crap back on them.

Yeah, but the 30.06 isn't SCARY LOOKING!

How many more of my rights do I have to give up to make this country safe for Muslim immigration?

I listened to one law enforcement type the other night say that a rifle in that nightclub setting wouldn’t be nearly as effective as a couple of pistols. I tend to agree.

Not for even a second do I think they want to ban rifles because of mass murders.

They are going after the people’s ability to defend themselves in battle.

I listened to him last night, I normally don’t and I had to change the channel when I heard his “logic” based on total lack of Firearms basics and terminology, and I am a freakin’ novice in this arena and I know way more about the subject he did. How many Millions will he influence with his ignorance?

With thousands and thousands of miles of coastland, with drones, with millions of shipping containers, it is not necessary for a terrorist organization to even blink if the USA imposes some kind of weapons ban.

Any foe with half a brain can figure out a way to get weapons into a country.

They managed EASILY in Paris.

His commentary last night was an attack on the 2nd amendment. I assume he knows that, but sometimes I do think he has a huge blind spot in terms of correctness. He wants so much to be liked.

O'Reilly is immune to persuasion. He has his own personal set of facts and conclusions, and they are all immutable.

They are going after the people’s ability to defend themselves in battle.

Which goes a long way towards proving that they EXPECT to engage in battle.

-- As long as the terrorists are only hitting the average hoi-polloi, this will be the typical governmental respsone. --

The government is determined to control the public, and it will disarm the public, period. If the targets are not average people, if the targets are celebrities, politicians, any government functionary, the government response to disarm the public will be swift, and it will be violent.

No rifles are much better. If pistols were better don’t you think our Special Forces would use them for entry and room clearing?
Rifles are a much more accurate natural feeling extension allowing the shooter a much better chance of hitting the target.

BOR has one and only side....

Whatever promotes BOR...

Unfortunately, millions of people actually believe he is some sort of populist commentator...

"looking out for the little guy"

If it paid better to be a progressive libtard, BOR would be as progressive as they can get...

Nothing like a terrorist attack to separate the sheep from the goats. All the anti-American pukes are whining for more “gun control”.
