I was living in central FL when Andrew hit Miami. The honest people with guns were not raped, robbed or murdered.

Looters would cruise the ruins of neighborhoods and when they saw someone sitting on the remains of their home with a shotgun.....they did not stop.

It takes a special kind of scum to loot the remains of people’s lost lives. They should be permanently removed from the gene pool.

I don’t recall any significant looting after Andrew. If anything the usual backdrop of Miami crime went down. Maybe it was because they didn’t know which house was armed. I do remember seeing signs saying looters would be shot.

Has Obama had anything to say about this terrible disaster?

Or does he ignore it, because West Virginia is a “red” state, not worthy of his attention????

Good for them.

This sounds like America at its best. Ordinary citizens coming together to assist each other as they face a natural disaster. And they are doing it without direction from anyone in government. They are doing what needs to be done, for public safety.

I do not recall that it was reported that looting was on a large scale. But I do recall reading some stories people sitting with weapons on their front porches, if they still had them, and detering wanna be looters.

“Has Obama had anything to say about this terrible disaster?”

The question is “Does West Virginia care what Obama says?” No we don’t.

Some silly fag showed up on that Fayette County Sheriff's Facebook post, whining about people coming to help risking getting shot in the back - as if residents don't have sense enough to be able to tell the difference between help or criminals - sheesh.

The craziness is that in some states the police would promptly arrest someone sitting on his or her own damaged property with a shotgun in his or her lap.

This is what good law-abiding Americans do; They join together, and take up arms to protect family, neighbors and property. They don’t wait for the police to come and save them.

Oh, and thank you Morgana for posting the state in the caption. I wish more posters would think to do that. We have a Fayette County in Pennsylvania - and probably in other states - and it would have been confusing.

when Andrew hit Miami

My son lived in SW Miami during Andrew. Lost power for 2 weeks. He wore a .45 auto the whole time.

After the Johnstown Flood looters were also a problem. The locals constructed a gallows on the river bank and hung looters for all to see.
