A same-sex couple say they were victims of discrimination by an Uber driver during SF Pride weekend.
Matt Tongi and Sumeet Chadha said they called Uber on Saturday night to go the Castro district in San Francisco for a Pride event. Tongi said after they got into the car, he kissed his boyfriend on the cheek.
The Uber driver then told them he couldn't drive them anymore because he was out of gas.
But Tongi said he could see the fuel gauge on the dash, and it indicated the vehicle had plenty of gas.
The conversation then got heated, and the driver used a gay slur and told them to get out, Tongi said.
Chadha said he was surprised by the driver's action, knowing how Uber heavily promoted Pride this year.
"I'm really appalled," he said. "Honestly, I felt really sad for the whole situation in general. I think the whole thing is the idea of this marketing strategy - if you're going to sell to a certain image or a certain person, you have to be sure that you're vetting your drivers, that they're OK with the same strategy you are using."
Uber responded with a statement, saying it is investigating.
"Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination, and we are looking into this incident,” a company spokesperson said. Published at 12:00 AM PDT on

1. The gay couple is lying and the driver never used a gay slur in the argument.
2. The driver did use a gay slur but is a foreigner or minority.
This sounds to me like a manufactured incident, so that the homosexual community can go into outrage meltdown mode over this. See what comes out. I have a feeling there is more to this story than this.

Doesn’t Uber allow them to give the driver a bad rating and summon another one? Of course, that doesn’t allow them to be Drama Queens.
And what did you do about it?
If the vehicle stalled the gas gauge often does not go to empty even if empty.
No sympathy for the driver here. He works for a pro-homo company in the homo capital of America, he picks up a fare going to the homo district during a major homo event, and he’s surprised to find out they are homos?
You just established why this reported incident doesn't pass the smell test.

For real: why all the foreigners, constantly in the news and in our face? Golly, it's as if there is some type of agenda being pursued.

Not buying it. If you’re an Uber driver in San Francisco, you expect much of your clientel is going to be gay. They probably were angry at the dynamic pricing charge he gave them.
