The guy claimed to have bombs “all over.” If that was true then it would have been likely he had a dead man switch to detonate said bombs. If you can sneak in a bomb close you have the chance to destroy the circuitry of the switch at the same time.
Bullets are projectiles. The propellant is the explosive.
And no, I do not prefer that more cops were killed. I am willing to admit that there are no guarantees other options would have resulted in no further casualties.
Of course, prior to the event, there were no guarantees the explosives would have worked either. How big was the charge? How well barricaded was the guy? Did the cops have a followup robot or camera to check that the shooter was out? Or did they just charge in after the explosion? If they ran into a hail of gunfire from a wounded suspect, you wouldn't have thought the explosives were a great idea aither.
I had just moved from philly. Mayor goode?
I’m torn on this one, the bast$rd clearly needed to die, but this throws out due process. I can see how feds would use this against anyone they decide needs eliminated.
I predict red Queen AG comes back on Dallas pd for doing this.
“light his ass up. I dont get why they would send a bomb in to him if he wasnt currently posing a danger to anyone.”
Not posing a danger to anyone? He did that earlier in the evening, didn’t he, murdering and wounding many. And the Cops indeed did “light his ass up”. Just before YOU wanted them to do so. Funny, they didn’t listen to the likes of you, did they. They got down to business and exterminated this vermin, thus saving the taxpayers thousands of dollars supporting him in jail. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
And that is my issue. Dallas PD improvised a weapon that worked in this case, in a straight-out justified use of lethal force. Okay, fine.
I'm concerned that other LEO organizations start thinking it's a good idea to add anti-personnel explosives to the equipment list.
I do protest using a bomb robot, or whatever. They should’ve used had grenades...they’re much cheaper.
No, I’m not. DPD Chief Brown said this morning that negotiations broke down, he was firing at them .. basically leaving them with no choice. No more innocents needed to die and he wasn’t going to be taken alive.
I’d be FAR more disturbed if additional police officers had been slaughtered by this insane gunman while trying to manually apprehend him.
Would you be less disturbed if the robot was sophisticated enough to use a firearm to kill the insane gunman instead of a small explosive, say something like RoboCop or ED-209?
What about all those MRAPS left over from the Iraq war, that were dispersed to PDs?
Seems as if Dallas already had one; “Others went to police in High Springs, Fla., and the sheriff’s office in Dallas County, Texas.”
You forget all the overtime costs. It costs lots of money to “sit someone out”. That’s why after so many hours they decide to end it. Can’t bust their OT budget.
Robot lives matter!!!
No!
Same as if they had brought in a sniper and got him through a window, right?
No.
Yep.
I agree. I have no problem whatsoever with using the robot - those thugs killed 5 cops and deserved whatever means it took to take them out. Such bleeding hearts on this board. Must be closet Democrats. Our LE is under seige and are sitting ducks in most cases. He** NO, I don’t have a problem with using the robot.
Yeah. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I still have trouble with law enforcement conduct during the dragnet for the Tsarnaev brothers after the Boston marathon bombing.
The police should not have used a bomb robot. They should have used a wood chipper robot. ;-)
