New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

That looks surrealistic. No wavering in the algae color, except where it has been disturbed, adds to that. Strange. Pretty, too.

He’s going to need a complete wash when he gets out of there.

As were these. I was trying to wash my hands in the last one. There was some diva that lured men to her and she “collected” them. She didn’t kill or torture them, just collected them.

The last one looked liked an overgrown, overage Boy Scout with a hugh kepi. That and his uniform had badges covering ever inch, and I was trying to read them. No wonder I was washing my hands: I needed to get out of there and back to reality.

Sounds like your Boy Scouts wandered into the French Foreign Legion.

LOL! That was pretty funny in relation to what I just posted!

Now I’m going to shower and see if I can get some of that out of my head. I’ll have to start writing my dreams down again...

That sounds more like a nightmare! LOL!

I just had my shower so I smell better, but how do I feel?

Now I’ll gather up my things and head to Wally’s.

Stay tuned. I’ll be back soon!

In and out in 20 minutes! :o])

And the humidity is up. Ungh.

My neighbor Chuck was out as I was throwing out the old air filter (ungh) and he looks terrible. I think there is more going on with him than he thinks.

And now, I’m going to read and start my day properly.

Be back soon...

Politics is at a quantum level.

A mad man shoots an archduke.

A Tommy decides not to shoot a Kraut he has in his sights, eye to eye not 15 feet apart...

That thought crossed my mind several times since I got up, especially in view of the dreams I had.

Now the Epic Fail Lawn Service is here, trying to make me come out and throw rocks at them to get them to go away. They usually come on Fridays. Go figger.

Pest control is due, but since I went after the place with Raid a few weeks ago, this is only going to be dessert for the six-legged critters that I don’t want in my place anyway. And I seem to have developed a black widow problem so I will ask pest control to spray the perimeter of the patio. *shudder*

Beware of black widows!

Epic Fail was supposed to be doing the lawn here today. Now I know what happened!

I’m going to brush my teeth and then take this circus to the library.

Black widows are so common here, I am always on the watch for their webs. Nothing about them is beautiful. Not the spiders, not the webs, nothing. I know they have their purpose in life, but I’m darned if I can figure it out.

I got a really cute card today, along with a group photo of the Usual Suspects, and all of it was a surprise! Thanks!

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with the doctor and for the life of me, I don’t know why. I guess just to figure out what the results of the tests are. I mean, how much better can I be, with cholesterol of 132 and triglycerides of 53. Or some such abnormal figures...I think I need to go back and look at my sugar level.

It was pretty warm out at the ramada today, but a breeze finally showed up. I figure if I don’t get out in it, there will come a day when I have to be and my body won’t be ready for it.

I think I have an abscessed tooth. Again. I will be glad when I get to St George and can get this mouth worked on. Finally.
