Newt in February: 'Donald Trump's not a conservative'
Politico ^ | Nick Gass

Posted on 07/14/2016 2:25:35 PM PDT by Donglalinger

Donald Trump is "not a conservative," speaks at a "fourth-grade level" and as a candidate for the Republican nomination has successfully "somehow figured out some weird combination of the Kardashians," Newt Gingrich said at a closed-door meeting in late February, according to audio obtained by ProPublica published late Wednesday.

I thought he was a mental case in February and now I love him. People’s opinions have changed. I just think newt is too old.

He said that before he was thinking about being VP.

As you say, people's opinions have changed. And it doesn't matter. Go Trump!

By virtually everyone’s definition Trump is a Populist. His policy ideas are a mix of big gov and small gov, of checks and balances and a strong executive.

On some issues he is conservative. On others not. On many issues he is flexible.

People’s opinions do change. But Donald Trump does not change. He is still the same rock ribbed, principled conservative that he has always been.

Trump is a nationalist on foreign policy and a populist in domestic policy. He is redefining the party. Get on the train, or get out of its way.

Nope, he’s not. He’s an American Nationalist. But since “genuine Conservative” politicians have done so very little with the political power we managed to give them the Republican voters decided it’s time to try something different. Trump brings a street fighter’s mentality to the race under a banner of pure nationalism. Social issue Conservatives will be on the short end of the stick under Trump but it looks like most of them understand that Hillary would be a thousand times worse. This might be another 1980 mandate year or not. But it’s going to be an interesting ride.

Newt replies; “People say things during a campaign. It’s all about survival of the fittest. Know what I mean?”

Newt is right. Trump is not really a conservative and kind of his own thing. He also speaks at a very elementary level and does not believe in complete sentences. His grammar sucks. He can be clumsy. But he loves America and is not evil like Hillary.

“He is still the same rock ribbed, principled conservative that he has always been.”

Oh, sure. He was always a “rock ribbed, principled conservative” even when he was pro gun control and pro abortion?!?

Even Trump doesn’t make such claims about himself.

Yeah, I told Newt not to invite Jimmy Carter's grandson.

Guess he didn't listen.

Newt is the most chronic flip flopper in the GOP. The only thing I’m sure he believes is that Newt Gingrich is great.

In the sense of what passes today as a “conservative”, he’s probably not.

Today, conservatism is what the incumbents and RINOs say it is.

I think he’ll be a good president, with the good of USA at the forefront. He’ll restore common sense and true fairness to the country.

I know what Newt was saying last Feb. and he was positive about Trump. It’s easy to take snippets out of context and present them as something he wasn’t saying, especially with someone like Newt who doesn’t just mouth the usual soundbites.

On some issues he is conservative. On others not. On many issues he is flexible.

In some ways, picking a philosophy for America is like picking a business. It's not really so much his job to pick a particular business as much as it is his job to make a business friendly environment in America. It is then up to the business to compete and grow. In the same way, I think that Trump will create a conservative friendly environment in America. Political correctness is like onerous business regulations. If Trump can get some of the repressive crap off of peoples backs, conservatism will be given a chance to thrive. We still have to compete to grow, but at least the PC muzzle will be off. After that it's up to us.

Well, Trump may not be a “conservative”, but again, the name of “conservative” is totally ruined by George Will, Bill Kristol, Eric Erickson, Ben Sasse and Lindsey Graham

Trump is not a conservative
Trump does speak at a 4th grade level

These things are true.

Trump has brilliant ideas
Trump is a marketing genius
Trump is a master at getting his message across such that everyone understands him
Trump is more likely to keep campaign promises than any other politician
Trump will build a wall on the southern border
Trump will put America’s interests first in foreign relations
Trump will push for law and order
Trump has brilliant ideas
Trump winning in November will give people like Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, Bill Maher, Rachel Maddow, John McCain and Lindsey Graham ulcers

This is also true
