OK, so I'm sitting here listening to C2C and I hear this kind of brushing or slamming on my front porch. I know whatever it is, it's pretty big, might be human, might be bigfoot!
So I get ready (meaning well armed), turn on my front light and look - there doesn't seem to be anything there... then a black lab that kinda hangs around the neighborhood jumps on me, I almost blow her to bits!
Well I gave her some chicken bones and dog biscuits I have tied her up, now she's whining a bit and I might have to let her go or maybe put her in my backyard until morning, I know who owns her but feel pretty stupid knocking on their door at 2 AM...
anyways, hell, she DID scare the wiggies out of me!
Morning! It’s kind of you to help the dog. I’d put her in the yard until daylight.
Cfeeding a lab treats guarantees many happy return visits.....
Similar thing happened to me the other night except someone pounded on the door and disappeared. I called: THE COPS.
The cops were very nice to me, but found nothing.

I untied her and put her in my backyard. Hope she doesn’t tear up my excuse for a garden...
If she starts raising a ruckus, I might have to haul her down to her house and pound on the door... she has visited me before and I don’t want to turn her loose.
The sun will be up in just a few hours.
I’m about as west coast as you can get, so it’s about 3 1/2 hours for me here.
She isn’t barking or doing anything unusual, so I think she’s ok.
I’ll have first light any minute now ... but you should go back to sleep!

No... but she did keep showing me her backside - I think she might be in heat. That might explain her escaping, because as far as I know, she lives inside and is rarely allowed to roam wild.
Is there a phone number on the tag?
Nope.

I’ve never seen them awake this time of night, so I doubt it... she seems to be sleeping on my back porch, so I guess it can wait till morning.
Same thing happened to me about 20 years ago with a German Shepherd I had never seen before. Didn’t want to turn him loose. Put him in the back yard. The next day, it looked like the Army Corp of Engineers had passed through my back yard. Every plant and almost every tree had been bitten in half at the trunk, or had been pulled out of the ground. Big holes had been dug in the turf. We never did find his owner. Had him for ten years until he died of leukemia. He was the best dog ever - starting day 2.
A long time ago I was at a camp in NW PA by myself. I knew one of the camp owners owned a bl. Lab because he used to put an orange vest on it during bear season. One night I heard noise coming from the back porch/laundry room. I picked up a Wiffle Ball bat looked on the dark back porch and found the Lab sans his flourescent vest. I opened the yelled and hit him with the bat. It was a real bear. I lost a few trips to the outhouse in my unnies.

Well, my dog passed in Oct 2007. 16 years old, that mangy mutt...
The vet sent me a card and said Max was one of the best cared for dogs she ever saw and was sad to hear about him passing.
Then a beagle started running around and visited me for about a year.
This one started about 2011 visiting me, she was owned by a far away neighbor who couldn’t handle her. A closer neighbor adopted her and has kept her pretty much under control. I would guess she’s about six or seven years old.
My other neighbor Todd has in his family two golden labs that are my favorite. When they are around, they always come visiting and sometimes sleep on my porch.
It’s kinds hard to say if labs are better than border collies(my first dog) but in an emergency, I think they might be.
Anyways, I miss my mutt!

Just a quick note: you should not feed chicken bones to an animal. They can be fatal, since they splinter easily and can pierce the digestive system.
I’ve heard it’s not good to give dogs chicken bones because (due to the small size) they can easily be broken/chewed into sharp edges that could injure the critter’s throat.
I dunno, tho, I’m a cat feller.
