CUOMO: Who takes the fall for cribbing Michelle Obama's speech in 2008? Whose fault is that?
MANAFORT: Well, there's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These were common words and values that she cares about her family, that uh, that things like that. I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night - she knew that. I mean, to think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. I mean it's so, I mean once again, an example of a when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.
CUOMO: All I'm saying is the language is strikingly similar. I'm not making a big deal of it; I know everybody is talking about it this morning, but I don't think it's an allegation, it's not some suggestion without proof. I don't know why the campaign doesn't just own it and say people borrow phrases, that's what happened, and movie on? That's what, ironically, Obama did in 2008 when Clinton said he cribbed from Deval Patrick. He said, "Yeah, you're right, I did it."
MANAFORT: No, no he did do it. That's correct. But in this particular case, you know, there was a process certainly of collaboration that.. Certainly there's no feeling on her part that she did it. You know, what she did was use words that are common words, and to expect her to, to think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night, is just really absurd.
CUOMO: Right, but again, that's assuming that it was Melania. I'm assuming that there were writers involved, but if that's the way you want to explain it, that's up to you. Let me ask you about something else.

My intentions here have been questioned, and that particular poster you responded to was one of them, so I thought that you might have thought I posted this because I’m a Cruz supporter. I have a history of being very critical of Ted Cruz and the way he has conducted himself this election.
Agree with all you said but one thing. The real story, and the one this phony controversy is trying to suppress, is Sean Smith’s mothers raw emotional condemnation of Hillary Clinton.

Seriously? Last night when this came out, it is all over Twitter and the media that this was exposed by a Jarrett Hill on Twitter. I looked at his Twitter account which you can look at and all the info is there. The only thing that has changed since last night is the link he had to his design business. It’s now replaced with a link to the Huffington Post. How is that inside information?
I agree. Fire the speechwriter immediately and move on.

I see this controversy as more of Hillary Clinton bimbo eruption MO: keep the spotlight on destroying Melania and distract from Sean Smith’s blood all over Hillary’s hands and his mother’s raw condemnation last night that captivated the viewing audience.
You make logical points, but I suspect this is what is really going on and it’s a disgrace, not to mention the anguish Mrs. Smith is so obviously still living.

There actually is a device or multiple sites you can copy a speech or report into to see if it is plagiarized. Posters were suggesting Michelle’s speech wasn’t original. I also thought maybe it could be generically used in speeches, so I ran it through. It did not work because it brings up recent results, and everything was matching it to the Melania speech.

I agree. It was either malice or incompetence on the part of a speechwriter, and that person needs to be drop-kicked. If Trump is the sort of guy I think he is, he’ll do the honors himself.

Yes— But she worked for Hillary’s campaign in 2008, yet also wrote Michelle’s DNC Convention speech, if you read Jon Favreau’s remarks. (He’s Obama’s former speechwriter). IT’s just a business for those types.
